I am so happy to announce that we have a new addition to our family. A bouncing baby boy..a friendly, four legged fur baby. My puppy fever has calmed…
I had a photo of this puppy on my vision board
Then, sight unseen, I was asked to meet a puppy that needed a home. I bent down to meet him and he snuggled up into my lap and that was it! He adopted us!
Look at this cutie!
It has been many years since we had a dog in our home. I am thrilled to introduce you to Izzy.
Named because I kept saying “where iz he?” enunciation was slaughtered ( please don’t judge me, giggle). He is a Schnapso ( miniature schnauzer and lhasa apso mix)
I will be posting updates as we go through the training process. Izzy is Katherines Corner official blog dog.
He has a favorite toy
He has a favorite place in the sun
We have been working on substitutions for chewing ( puppies like to chew, he is 9 weeks old) every time he starts chewing on something he shouldn’t I just give him a chew toy. It is a work in progress…
The carpet is all covered up…he wasn’t happy about this…
and housebreaking… also a work in progress. He knows when he messes up, just look at that face!
Do you have a dog? Any advice for puppy training?
Have a happy weekend sweet souls.

What a cutie-pie fluffy fur babe!!
I have two canine fur babes, significantly larger than Izzy. My best advice… remember he is a dog not a person, you can’t reason with dogs like you can children. You have to be the pack leader. Minnie and Callie Delicious love life soooo much more once I grasped that concept.
Enjoy your new bundle of joy.
Always, Queenie

Your new baby is absolutely adorable! Isn’t it funny how some things just happen as though they were meant to be? I have a feeling you ‘ll be wrapped around his little paw- if you aren’t already. 🙂 I’m happy for you!

Oh my goodness…he is SO cute!!
Sorry, no advice in the puppy training department 😉

He is so adorable. I have 4 dogs one is a chiwawa the other 3 are average size dogs so it took me awhile to see how to take care of a small dog compared to a big one. It is fun Enjoy!

Izzy is too cute :o) Puppy love is the sweetest. Training is pretty easy. Take him out as soon as he’s finished eating, sleeping, or playing “hard”. We placed a bell (a Christmas Jingle Bell actually) on the door we wanted him to use. He’s 7 now & we know if he goes to that door he’s “gotta go”. We also praised him when when he did his “big business” (to this day he’s proud when he does it L.O.L). We also solved our chewing problem with a “mini Kong”. You can get one at PetSmart in the dog toy isle. They have a hole in them for treats, so the little guy has to work “pretty hard” to get it out. Happy puppy days :o)

Congrats on your new addition! Wishing you all the joy and happiness this little guy can bring into your life! He is absolutely adorable!
As you know, I had Gracie and her sister (also Izzy) from 6 months of age. We crate trained, and I highly recommend it. When we let them out, the very 1st stop is outside to potty. There is a line of thinking that if you have to paper train in the house, you will extend your time training cause you will then have to teach them to go outside. We used puppy pads only to line the crate; but never in the house. They were taught to go outside from day 1.
A lot of people rebel against crate training cause they think it’s cruel cause the pup spends pretty much the 1st year in the crate unless it’s eating or you’re holding or playing with it; this however is a total misunderstanding. Crate training is the easiest and safest way to train your pup and spare your nerves and your precious carpet and furniture in the process; and dogs actually love being in a den of sorts. In the wild, pups are normally born in a den and it gives your pup a sense of safety and comfort (especially if you put a covering over the top of the crate). The wire crates – not the carry crate. As they grow and get to the point where they are out most of the time, we still leave our crates open for all 3 of our girls and often they will go into them on their own to have that sense of their own space or during storms. It becomes their safe place.
The crate also offers you a way of training your pup to recognize the difference between what’s his space and what’s yours. Eliminating the battle for your spot on the sofa, etc. Most of your dog trainers will tell you that dogs look for the alpha in the house to be in control; if you are not the alpha; the dog will then take on the role which is difficult to break (though not impossible). Welcome to the wonderful world of pack leadership 🙂 If you have any questions…feel free to ask…you know how to get in touch with me and you know we are well groomed in dog behavior!
PS. Hope your Izzy is better behaved than ours was 😉 and CONGRATS again! So happy for you! Hugs, xoxo

What a precious gift! He is perfect! I like the ideas given on the bell at the door. If that does not work, try crate training. I thought it was mean until we had to do it because nothing else worked. Now, our Jane (jack russel/chihuahua) loves her crate and goes to it anytime she wants left alone. And no more accidents! Have fun!

One word for puppy training – perseverance! Your Izzy ( and I love the reason behind the name!) is adorable. Both are very lucky to have each other.
Our Brittany, Scout, is now four years old, the first three years were a challenge. Brittany’s require more interaction that most breeds, one of the reasons we chose one, yet they don’t recommend having a Brittany pup with small children, not because the Brittany would hurt anyone, they are too lovable for that, but the mix will drive already stressed .parents to absolute insanity. It is like having another toddler in the family. However, now past the puppy stage, he is perfect. Playful, cuddly, with just the right amount of energy, and so sweet! At the moment he is cuddled in my lap asleep, until the next round of play. He sometimes is smarter than us, and never fails to give affection, smiles and some outright rib-splitting laughs. Can’t imagine life without him.

Congratulations Mama! He is adorable . . . . you are a braver Mama than I am at this time in my life. ;o) The girls think a puppy would be the best thing that could happen to our family, but I’m not thinking I need one more thing to “babysit” right now! Hope you all have a joyful weekend and we’ll be back to work on Monday ;o) Love, Nina xoxoxoxo

So precious. His face looks a lot like our Skye’s. Lot’s of rawhide chews. Being a puppy I would suggest the compressed ones because they digest better. Our Skye was trained in just a few weeks to go outside. We have a bell hanging from the door high enough that she has to make an effert to ring it. Everytime I took her outside I would ring the bell. She picked up on it quickly and rings the bell when she has to go potty. Enjoy, he is going to fill your life with love.

He’s so cute. I remember that my psychology professor told us once that he put a bell on the door that he wanted the puppy to use. He would ring the bell with the puppy’s nose and let it outside. He did this every single time and had the puppy trained in 24 hours. — look at that, something remembered from my psychology degree. 🙂
Have a Fantastic Friday!

Hi, Katie
How cute! You make me want to get one just like that, but then you reminded me its like having another child. LOL I am happy for you and he is so so cute! His pics melt my heart. I had a 10 week old basset hound and I would stand by the front or back door and call out his name and say to him if he wants to go out. By two weeks he would stand by the door and telling me when he need to go out. I didn’t have any accident either. Hope this helps, have a great weekend.

Sooooooooooooooooooo cute. It seems Rocky has always used his pad as he should. Seems making a big deal when he does it helps praising him. Have fun. Happy Friday.

Izzy is one of the cutest puppies I’ve ever seen, Katie! I’m a dog lover and very happy to know that you gave that dear little animal a home. As for training tips all I can tell you is that dogs respond well to love, encouragement and positive reinforcement, just as people do. Have a fun filled weekend with Izzy, dear friend!
