Easy Flower Arranging –
I love fresh flowers in the house, especially in the dining room and master bedroom. When my hubby and I were dating he would bring me fresh flowers every week. ♥ I loved seeing his grin as he presented my new bundle of blooms. But, fresh flowers this time of the year can be expensive. Many frown on using silk flowers in arrangements; I see no reason not to use them. These lovely low maintenance beauties are so pretty and there is a wonderful variety available to choose from.
The other day it was particularly gloomy and dark outside and I was being nudged by my desire for a pop of color on our dining room table. It has been bare since the holidays, and a bare tabletop is not an option. 🙂 I found this lovely two handled urn at Michaels craft store a while ago. It has a lot of character and reminds me of something you would buy from a little shop in Greece or Italy.
Michaels had their hydrangeas on sale recently too. I took advantage of their sale and picked up these beautiful flowers in colors to match the kitchen and dining accents. With the addition of a few flowers and greenery I dug out of my craft supplies I created our new centerpiece. I have enjoyed creating floral arrangements for many years. I find it to be both a creative outlet and it allows for quiet contemplation. I have a floral arrangement in my art room you may remember from my “where I create” post. That I made a few years ago. Did you know you can clean silk flowers with canned air? It works well.
Arranging a simple floral centerpiece can be achieved in just a few easy steps. There is no need for pins, glue or dry moss for this easy creation.
What You Need For The Hydrangea Arrangement (or one similar to it)
Hydrangeas
Cherry blossoms
Some leafy greenery
Urn (or pitcher)
Some wire snips
Flower tape (or a rubber band)
note – I forgot the floral foam in the supplies photo so I just added it at the bottom 🙂
Place the floral foam into the bottom of your vase/vessel so that it fills the whole bottom. You may need to cut, squish and push a bit. When I am working with a tall vase/vessel I find it easiest to gather all of the flowers in my hand like a bouquet. Using the large flowers as the focal piece and then slowly adding in the greenery and smaller flowers turning the arrangement as I go until I achieve my desired look.
Once I have them all arranged nicely I adjust them easily by pulling up on some flowers and moving others down. Then I simply wrap the stems in floral tape and begin to carefully snip the ends off. Then place the arrangement firmly into your floral foam in your vase/vessel.
This method only works with a tall vase or vessel. If you are working with a round,square vessel or short you will need to use floral tape to quadrant off your area. I will share that process in a future post.
One of the things I love about flower arranging is that there really is no wrong way to do it! The formality of flower arranging has long gone and with a few simple tricks (like the taping the stems together) you can create lovely bouquets for a fraction of the cost of pre-made ones. the big taa daa moment! 🙂

Your arrangement turned out beautifully. I do use silk flowers from time to time. I also love dried flowers and all sorts of dried naturals. In the spring and early summer, I have lots of fresh flowers in the garden and that is a special time. You are so correct, we are needing a bit of color about now. xoxoGinger
Yes I definitely do! Though they may be plastic. I like the fact that I don’t have to take care of them. They just stand there, looking pretty.
