Italian Bread Crumbs Recipe-

I love it when my hubby says, ” you should share this on your blog”. He nudged and I listened. So today I am sharing my Italian bread crumbs recipe. I use it on fish, poultry and in meatloaves ( chicken and beef) .You can also use it for veggies too! There is no need to buy packaged bread crumb mixes. Have you read the label on some of them? Here’s and example of one popular Italian bread crumb label.

“Fresh is best” my sweet bloggy friends. I make about one cup at a time. But this Italian Bread Crumbs Recipe is easy to increase. Simply multiply the ingredients by how many cups you need for your recipe. I need about one cup for two fish fillets ( we had fresh caught walleye the other night). Or one cup of bread crumbs is perfect for one split chicken breast. Hopefully this will help you determine how much you need.

What You Need
1 Cup stale/toasted bread (or premade plain bread crumbs) I use four slices of Italian bread

1/2 tsp. white pepper

1 1/2 Tbsp. parsley (dried)

1/2 tsp. garlic powder

1/2 tsp. oregano (dried)

1/2 tsp. basil (dried)

Food processor (or blender)

Baking sheet or toaster ( if needed)

Before You Start- Toast your bread in a toaster, or tear your bread into pieces and place on a baking sheet and broil on low ( watch closely so you don’t burn it). Or make sure your bread is stale by leaving it out on a plate over night. You want it to be very dry. The type of bread you use can effect the flavor of your bread crumbs. I prefer Italian bread. But you may want to experiment a bit.

Lets Make It! Place the bread into a food processor and pulse until  you have small “crumbs” add remaining ingredients and continue to pulse or grind until well blended and it reaches your preferred bread crumbs size. You can see by my photo that I prefer the crumbs to be quite small.
Makes 1 Cup

Katie Tid Bits* I only make as much as I need. But, if you have leftover crumbs you can place them in an airtight container and keep in a cool dry dark place for up to 5 days. It is very important your breadcrumbs and ingredients must all be dry- no moisture or you have the possibility of mold 🙁

If you not on a migraine safe diet include 1/2 tsp. onion powder
