Prosciutto Melon Mozzarella Skewers
Its 102 degrees Fahrenheit here today and it will be 102 on the fourth of July too. I just can’t picture me or my hubby standing outside on the patio waiting for something to barbecue in this heat. We will stay inside and keep cool. A meal with yummy and easy to make finger food will keep us out of the hot kitchen too. If you don’t mind the heat and plan a barbecue or picnic this easy recipe recipe will be a nice accompaniment too. In the past I shared my chicken kebabs (you can find the recipe HERE). I just love finger foods and foods on skewers. These easy to make and yummy Prosciutto Melon Mozzarella Skewers are a big hit especially when you have pesto dipping sauce!
One cantaloupe and 1/2 pound of Prosciutto will make a lot of skewers. I do not have quantities on the skewers so you can determine how much you need based on how many you need to serve, the pesto will make about 1 cup.
What You Need-For the Skewers
Cantaloupe
Thinly sliced prosciutto
Fresh basil leaves (cleaned and patted dry)
Mozzarella
Melon baller (adjustable size or one 1 inch and 1 ½ inch size)
Small wood skewers or long toothpicks
Serving platter
Small dipping bowls
What You Need For the Pesto
2 Cups fresh basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
1/4 Cup pine nuts
3/4 Cup extra-virgin olive oil (divided)
Salt and Pepper (to taste)
Food processor
Before You Start- Using your melon baller scoop 1 inch round cantaloupe balls, and ½ inch mozzarella balls and set aside.
Lets Make It! Add melon ball, basil leaf, thin strip of prosciutto and a mozzarella ball to the skewer. Continue this process until you have the quantity of skewers you prefer. Place on a serving platter and keep refrigerated while you make the Basil Pesto. – In your food processor combine the basil, garlic and pine nuts, pulse until coarsely chopped. Add 1/2 cup of the oil and continue to pulse until well incorporated. Add salt,pepper and remaining oil and blend until smooth.
Katie Tid Bits* Stir in a 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan or Pecorino cheese to the pesto before serving.
I know this isn’t what you typically think of as Fourth of July Food so I included a couple of finger foods sure to be tasty and a welcome addition to your menu too.

I have to admit. I wasn’t sure at first, but the more I read the recipe I definitely think these skewers would be absolutely delicious!! What a yummy way to have sweet and savory!
Thank you LZ, In all truthfulness the combination of cantaloupe and prosciutto was not my original idea, Italians have been enjoying the two sweet and savory flavors for a very long time. The addition of basil and mozzarella and the dipping sauce is just a bit more yummy for the sweet and savory palate. Hoping you get a chance to give it a try. Hugs
