What To Do When You Lose A Button, Ribbon Flower Craft
One of my favorite black sweaters is looking a bit worn, probably because I wear it…a lot! Instead of running out to buy enough buttons to replace them all I thought why not make something.
Today’s tutorial is how to make a silk ribbon flower brooch.
What You need
ribbon about 20 inches and 2 inches wide
needle
thread that matches the ribbon
scissors
pin back ( from your local craft store)
patience
sorry a few photos are out of focus ( some photographer I am, giggle)
Lets make it! Start by folding the ribbon in half and tucking in the ends with your finger. You can press the end with an iron if you like. But do not press the fold of the ribbon.
Now it’s time to sew. Tie a knot in the end of your thread and thread your needle with your matching thread (about twice the length of your ribbon ). Start at the folded end and begin sewing a running stitch.
Once you have sewn to the end leave enough thread to pull gently.
Now you need to start pulling and gathering. Don’t tug on it ( you don’t want to break your thread.
Keep gently pulling.
Now is where I apologize, I completely neglected to take a photo of the next step.

Re thread your needle and begin rolling your flower into itself. Start with the end you folded as the center. With each roll sew a little tack stitch to hold it in place
When you’ve reached the end, finish it all off with a wrap stitch and Snip off the excess ribbon. Don’t throw the scrap away you need it for the next step.
Create a tube, or folded piece with the scrap and stitch it to the back.Covering up all of the stitching .
Then peel off the sticky backing of the brooch clasp and place it on top and sew the clasp on.
flip that beauty over and taa daa! I kept going and grabbed some teal ribbon scrap and made this pretty hair comb. Just attach a flat piece of fabric to the back ( omitting the clasp) and then hot glue to a comb. I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial.

That’s lovely! I try not to wear anything that attracts attention and I’m afraid that might. However, the granddaughters could use the ones for hair, on a clip, to keep them in.
