Dear Katie Decorative Plate Degreaser
Dear Katie I have a painted plate on display in my kitchen on the wall above my stove. I’ve tried everything and I can’t get the grease off of it. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Diane
Dear Diane. It sounds like your plate is hand washable ( painted). Lets see if I can help! Start by filling a plastic wash basin with warm water and a few squirts of dish soap (I prefer dawn) add about ¼ cup of white vinegar ( a plastic wash basin helps protect the plate and is best to use when using vinegar.) Place your plate in the wash basin and let it soak for about 10-20 minutes. Then using a dish cloth or sponge and gently wash , do not scrub ( it may damage the pattern or decorative accents).The grease should come off easily. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the best results. Katie

oohhh… great idea! amazing what vinegar can do, huh?! my mom and i use it for everything — did you know vinegar picks up marker and ink stains off of the carpet? (even if it has set… because a certain family member tried to hide it from me so he would not get in trouble and i discovered it when lifting the coffee table to vacuum!) happy sunday!!!!

Someone once played a nasty trick and put down in a bottle of 7 Up I was drinking. Oh, not good.Not good at all. To this day I hate the smell of Dawn .

Hi Welcome, you may want to try mixing water,dawn and vinegar in a spray bottle . Hugs!
That should do the trick – I wonder if using the microwave with a small bit of vinegar would help as well. That is how I clean up greasy messes in my microwave by putting a small amount of white vinegar in a glass bowl and setting it for about a minute – the grease is easily wiped from the walls – it should work for this plate too : D
Most hand painted plates are not microwave safe. But vinegar in a bowl of water does work wonderfully for the microwave . big hugs!

Vinegar is a miracle worker, on so many things. Especially for people who can’t tolerate chemicals.
