  1. This post makes me so excited for summer! I can’t wait until it finally gets hot over here. Unfortunately, we only had rain the past week.

    When I think of summer, the first thing that pops into my head is watermelon. 🙂

  2. So far, the only ways I’ve tried cooking corn on the cob is grilled in the husk or in foil.
    My favorite picnic spots are Canyon Lake in the Texas hill country where we took our sons camping when they were growing up. Also picnicking by the Guadalupe River in Texas and the family goes “tubing.” The water is really cool even during the summer. My husband does like fishing so we’re usually by a lake or river.
    I like swimming usually in a lake. We live near the gulf so the beach is not far though.
    My favorite iced tea is raspberry but I love just regular iced tea with lemon and a sprig of mint.
    When I think of summer, I think of getting away to cooler temperatures, esp. in Colorado. We have a favorite river we go to there and rent a cabin. The nights are so cool we can leave the windows open and feel the cool breezes or sit out on the porch and watch the fireflies.

  4. Summer opens all possibilites. My husband loves to make ice tea. He has been no stop for a couple of weeks. Road trips are coming up for us. We love this time of year.

  6. I have commented before that I grew up in a little country store. Along with that my dad would barbeque a pig every friday. He used a dug out pit with a metal grate resting on cement blocks and used hard wood coals. He would take the cooked meat and sit at 30″ section of a tree and chop the meat with 2 cleavers adding in some crispy skin for flavor and seasoned it with salt, pepper, vinegar & crushed red pepper. He would then put it into white paper trays that held 1 pound each and sell it that way. The ribs were sold a week in advance. I miss those days. Hope you are having an enjoyable one.

  7. It’s so hot this year and we are in a terrible drought! We are now being told to consider no barbecue because of the extreme fire hazards…no fireworks for the 4th…it is kind of sad!! But, I when I look at your pictures, the ice tea looks really inviting! I love it with fresh mint from the backyard!

  8. Katie, some of my earliest childhood memories (1950-1953) revolve around summer cookouts at my home in the country. We had an outdoor fireplace and my mom often made corn on the cob the way you described, in the husk soaked with water. It was delicious! During those years I enjoyed my first trip to the seashore, experienced the ocean, took my first walk on a boardwalk, and tasted soft ice cream, salt water taffy and pizza for the first time. Summertime memories are the best!
