Bake from Scratch

” If you hear a voice within you say ‘”you cannot bake, then by all means Bake and that voice will be silenced.”* Yes I am borrowing and blatantly altering, Vincent Van Gogh’s quote*. Hubby will sometimes say, “oh Katherine you are a cook not a baker”. But, I still manage to share plenty of baked treats. Have you seen the premier issue of Bake From Scratch magazine? I was drawn to the cover instantly. All of the other cooking magazines on the shelf paled in comparison. Brian Hart Hoffman is the editor-in-chief, he describes himself as a weekend baker and I love that! He also encourages the reader to savor each page of the bake from scratch premiere issue.

With so many wonderful apples in the market now, it is the perfect time to create apple recipes or bake those tried and true recipes we all love so much. With that in mind I will be making the Bake from Scratch cover recipe (a 1-2-3 cake) Apple Spice Cake and I would love it if you made it too. Their magazine can be found at book stores, Amazon,Barnes and Noble and Walmart. I will have to alter it a bit to meet my dietary restrictions. But, I am looking forward to baking it. You can find their 1-2-3 cake recipe on page 80 of the magazine. I would love to share their recipe with you but I don’t have their permission. I already took liberties with Mr Van Gogh after all. I encourage you to pick up their premiere issue and bake along with me.

You can find my version of a 123 cake recipe HERE, it is very similar, the truth is all of the magic happens when you start adding flavors to it. Chocolate, fruit, nuts, liqueurs, all of these and more will take the basic 123 cake to new heights.  Add a flavorful frosting and you will hear angels sing. If you are on Instagram (I am now) you can share your cake on their feed by tagging your cake photo with #thebakefeed .
