Choosing a Theme for your Holiday Decor-

It is my pleasure to have the lovely and talented Debi from Surroundings by Debi as my guest today. She is a member of my blog family and it is a joy to have her sharing with us today. You may not know it, but she had her own flower shop for 30 years and she creates beautiful things. I know most of you recognize her straight away she is my co hostesses for the hop ( link party) every week and she is also a courageous survivor of breast cancer. After a near long fight she came out a champion like we all knew she would.

Are you like so many others – you struggle with decorating your home?

You want a home you are proud of ….. but you don’t know where to start.

Imagine walking into your own home and it looks like it stepped right off the pages of the latest décor magazine. The holidays with your rooms filled with the special touch of your very own design skills.

That’s my wish for all of my readers.

With the holidays approaching I thought it would be fun to share with you one of the easiest ways to bring a cohesive look to your home.

Choose a theme.

You can choose your theme by selecting a color, a pattern or a feature (such as snowmen, deer etc.); something that will carry through each aspect of your seasonal décor. Selecting your theme ahead of time makes it much easier to shop for accents and accessories for your décor and scour what you already have on hand that might coordinate.

For one of my recent Christmas themes I chose to use buffalo checked fabric for the basis of my decorating.

Fabric Christmas Ornaments were created using only Styrofoam balls and checked fabric.

And with the same pattern a set of easy Fabric Christmas Trees were made.

A simple table runner was sewn for the dining table.

This Repurposed Gift Bag made a great accent.

Then the fun began as it all started coming together.

The Christmas Tree in Red and Black was the centerpiece of the family room.

The ornaments pulled the red and black to the theme tree.

Small scraps of checked fabric were tied as tassels to the branches.

And the fabric trees found their way to the mantel.

Even the potpourri bowl was accented with ribbons, berries and fabric balls.

Christmas Accent Wreaths tied with scraps of the fabric brought the theme into the kitchen.

And the buffet and Christmas Table in Red and Black were the perfect place to showcase a collection of Pencil Santa’s.
