Early Summer Garden

I enjoy sharing our garden with you every year. It’s always in full bloom, bursting with blossoms reaching for the sun. But, this year I want to share our early summer garden. The before of the amazing after. The little green starters surrounded by rich and nutrient filled soil. The newly planted and recently transplanted. In July or August, I will update the photos. I will share why we appreciate the much-needed combination of hard work, nature and nurture every year that brings fresh veggies to the table and fragrant flowers to our home.Welcome to our home this is where love lives. Memories are made and tea is always ready. I’m not sharing the porch yet. I’m on the lookout for a little bench I can paint white ( or is already white)and I haven’t created our summer door wreath yet. Trust me, in my mind, it is sooo cute! Hubby and I recently planted the petunias ( our favorite summer annual) along the driveway. It was pouring rain but we pushed on until we were soaked. While I was showering the rain stopped, the sun came out and hubby planted the rest. Yes, he is that awesome. We transplanted the peonies this year so we only had a few blooms. These are the Sarah Bernhardt variety. Peonies take a lot of patience. Newly planted peony bushes can take up to three years to have a full bush of flowers. They are so beautiful they almost don’t look real. Each one is brilliantly colored and the petals are close together like little bits of tissue paper. Peonies are filled with cut flower arranging possibilities. But, I didn’t cut any for the house this year, there were so few. We enjoyed them while they get used to their new home. Every year we plant containers filled with fragrant petunias, geraniums, and other flower varieties. We add fillers, lemongrass, and potato vines that will soon cascade down the containers creating a beautiful scene. These are on our back patio. Sitting on the patio in the early morning you are surrounded by the hum of happy bees, birds calling out to wake up ( including the chickens clucking away in our neighbor’s yard) and the air is perfumed with the promise of warm sunshiny days. Izzy Bogart’s my photos regularly, look how cute he is! The veggie garden is one of my hubby’s happy places, as you can see there are already bits of green peeking out of the soil. We also plant basil and peppermint in the veggie garden. But, this year we put them in containers on the back porch. They look tiny in their big pots but just wait….
