Greeting Cards

We heard a crash one afternoon not too long ago. Izzy and I looked at each other with slightly tilted heads and I said, “what on earth was that?” He didn’t answer (if he had this would be a whole different story.) But, instead he tilted his head the other way reminding me that he may be the best dog in the whole world, but he still can’t speak. So what was the crash? We discovered our very tidy storage cupboard had a shelf give way, and one of the many things on the shelf ( and now all over the floor) were my greeting card baskets.As I sat crossed legged on the floor and started gathering them all together it was growing abundantly clear that I had far more envelopes than I did greeting cards. I’m not sure how this happened, but it posed a bit of a quandary. How could I possibly have more envelopes than cards?  When I buy the greeting cards they have envelopes. I can say for absolute certainty I have never purchased a greeting card without an envelope, have you? Do they even sell them that way and if they do, why?I gathered all of the cards and began the quest for the matching envelopes. Let me tell you, I had no idea what a crazy mess it would be. I grabbed the cards and envelopes of every size and color and tried to match them together. Then changed direction and started creating stacks of envelopes in different colors and sizes. Knowing full well there is no possible way I can get the original envelope with the correct card. Izzy was bored quickly when I started the organization and matching. He his is laying “boneless”. Hubby and I get a tickle out of the way he lays when he gets “bugged” and wants more attention.

As I went through the cards I started to drift a bit. You know that feeling when you take the Christmas ornaments out and you spend more time thinking about how and why that ornament came to be in your box rather than decorating. Well, I had a Christmas ornament moment with the greeting cards. Most of the cards without envelopes were cards I send to my customers. But mixed among them were cards I purchased for friends and family. Each one purchased with the thought of the intended recipient in mind. I see greeting cards and I think that reminds me of “fill in the blank” I need to get that and send it when it is needed. Do you do that too?I didn’t make time to re-do the greeting cards baskets. Each greeting card basket has simple dividers with the type of greeting cards it holds. I used pieces of old scrapbooking paper. Approximate time invested in the original greeting cards baskets 15 minutes. I know I should have taken the time and opportunity to create better dividers instead of just using the old ones. But…I just wanted to get them matched and in the right baskets for now. Just between you and me, I don’t know if I’ll ever make the time to create more attractive dividers ( wink).I wasn’t able to match all of the envelopes to the right greeting cards or vice versa, but I did a fairly good job. I still have a whole box of envelopes ( if you have a card missing an envelope I have you covered).  I’ll just take my queue from this lovely card and let the cards and envelopes stay together as they are.
