“I don’t bend that way” and other things your knee might say.” You know what they say, ” the knees go first”. Aging is a blessing, it sure beats the alternative, right? But it does come with a few extras we may not welcome so easily.
My legs have always been strong, they have carried me over finish lines, and kept me running when everyone else has stopped. They have walked the halls with a crying baby and bent down to pray. They have been the unwilling victims of years of a nicked blunders when shaving my legs in a hurry. They have been with me from the very beginning.
But, these days the running has stopped, and rather abruptly. You may recall I mentioned in September that I had fallen. Well… truth be told, I was running in the hallway (using the walls for support my walking stick left in the corner), if I were in school I would surely get detention. I can hear the quiet echo…”no running in the halls Katherine.”
With Izzy running alongside. I had made this a daily event. I had been doing it for quite some time actually. Those 10,000 steps a day can add up when your running with a furry friend.
One day Izzy decided to change the routine and dashed in front of me and I fell. The rest has been a total pain in the…well..knee. I saw a specialist today and it looks like I have torn meniscus. It’ll be confirmed on Friday with an MRI.
Although I’m moving slower and sleep is eluding me I am grateful I have two legs to stand on. Even if they do creak a bit when I go up and down the stairs.
I pray the creaks in the night are your stairs and not your knees saying” I don’t bend that way” wink.
