Flutterbies
When our second granddaughter was little ( she’s 17 now) she used to call butterflies, flutterbies. Sweet, right? If you’ve been reading Katherines Corner for a while you know I have shared my affinity for butterflies on several occasions. They always seem to be around when something nice has happened or just before something wonderful takes place. I’ve had this love of the colorful winged creatures my whole life.
We had a beautiful day here on Sunday and the flutterbies were everywhere. Our ornamental pear trees and lilac bushes were covered in butterflies, flying from branch to branch, and I was mesmerized by all of the activity. Butterflies symbolize transformation, new life, and new beginnings.
I was slow to grab my camera ( bad blogger). But I was truly transfixed by their activity. I just stood there gobsmacked as I imagined the soft sound of ambient music playing in the background.
No photos of them on the lilac bushes. I focused my camera on the pear tree instead. But, this photo of one of our lilac bushes with the sun shining through might be one of my favorites.
I stood there with my arm extended hoping one would find me as appealing as the blossoms of the tree. But, no luck, the flutterbies were much more interested in dancing among the pear and lilac blossoms. It really was an amazing thing to watch. I’m happy I can share it with you today.

Hello Katherine!! I’m a little backed up on my reading so I hope this will get to you. I’m 60 years old and have always called them flutterbies. I got my now 12 year old granddaughter calling them the same. I too am utterly in love with these delicate creatures. While I paused on each of the photos of them, the picture that held my attention longest was the one of the sun shining thru the lilacs. Very calming…very soothing. I love Katherine.
