a Patriotic Table Setting that Hopes to be a Tablescape
Hello friends, once again I find myself surrounded by talented tablescapers. Chloe, my bloggy friend, and blogger at Celebrate and Decorate has gathered all of us together for a Patriotic Tablescape tour (tablescape blog hop). I am so happy to be included again. True confessions- I had something completely different in mind when I originally thought of a design for this patriotic theme. But, like life, things take us on different paths. So it’s no surprise this one changed for me. I’m not 100% sure it qualifies as a tablescape. Maybe a Patriotic Table Setting that Hopes to be a Tablescape one day.

I try to use what I have at home for tablescaping ( again not sure this is one) and crafting too. But this time, I went through my holiday stash and realized…. I don’t really have one for patriotic themes. I am a woman bereft of Patriotic stash. Fear, not my friends, I went to the local Michaels and found a few things to add to my minimalist table setting.
Let me tell you a little secret, see the cute napkin rings? They are hair ties! Umm yes, a new uses for old things for certain.
I had hoped for large red or white plates but they were out. They had these little red ones so in the cart they went, then I found the stars and stripes plates. I paused and thought of how many rules may be broken by combining so many patterns… Pause over and into the cart, it went, along with those two cute pinwheels tucked in the carnations.
Hubby loves ice cream sundae’s, I say “Eat dessert first”, it’s one of the best parts of being a grown-up. I was really craving some of my almost sugar-free oatmeal apple bombs ( recipe is HERE) when I started putting together this tablescape (wink). So It’s a dessert table setting..see, what I did there, that’s right.
I didn’t make the bombs but the sundae sure looked yummy.
I turned the table a little catawampus so I could have the flowers and garden in the background. You can see I used the DIY 4th of July tablecloth I shared on Tuesday HERE.
As you can see, this tablescape is all about minimalism and keeping things casual, and having very few dishes to wash never hurts ( wink).
I couldn’t put ice cream in the sundae glasses, it was 88 degrees when I set this up, so it was melting very quickly. The truth is the frosting was even beginning to slide off of the cookies a bit.

Katherine, for last minute shopping at Michael’s, you hit the jackpot. Love your combination of patterns ~ not too many at all ~ and all the pretty dishes. Katharine, I am all for mixing patterns! Using hair ties for napkin rings is a tip I am going to borrow! Dessert first is always a fun treat, and the sundae cups are so cute! I love the little caddy holding all the toppings. What a great idea!

Who doesn’t love a cute dessert table!! Kudos for the ice cream shot in hot weather! I did that once and and said never again, mine kept melting and looking like a puddle of yuck. If there are rules about combining patterns, I am sure I have broken all of them, they would have to lock me up and throw away the key! Very cute and resourceful, Katherine! Love the tablecloth and the added pom pom fringe. I’ve used hair ties for napkin rings too, even keep a set I purchased in the same cupboard where I store the napkin rings now.

Kathrine, Never and I do mean never apologize for a tablescape my friend. A vignette or tablescape can be whatever we want it to be. We are stylists sweet friend.
Even though our tablescapes can sometimes be considered works of art….most of the time we are just having fun decorating and your title of “the patriotic setting that hopes to be a tablescape” is so perfect.
Remember, in the beginning, the painter Monet’s paintings were considered formless, unfinished and ugly!
