DIY Halloween Ghost Gnome

Are you ready for a 15 minute craft? I have a fun one for you today. I think it is one you will all like. Gnomes can be found in gardens, cartoons, movies and adorable home decor too. I hope you’re ready because today I’m sharing my DIY Halloween Ghost Gnome.

There are a lot of gnome tutorials out in blog land and I did a lot of research before I created this one. I came up with the idea in the middle of the night. You all know I keep a pen and notebook on my nightstand, so a quick scribble and back to sleep I went. Gnome dreams…hmmmm….wonder what the subconscious meaning of that is, wink.

I must give credit where credit is due. This is “the blogger’s creed” . I learned how to make a gnome in 3 minutes from Claire’s Crafty Corner. I searched the web and couldn’t find a DIY Halloween Ghost Gnome so on went my crafty hat!

• What You Need
• White men’s sock ( from the dollar store)
• White Hair ties ( or rubber bands)
• Cotton flour sack towel ( clean and dry)
• 2 lbs Uncooked rice
• Felt, the color of your choosing ( for the hat)
• Glass or another vessel for pouring rice into the sock
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Faux fur
• Measuring tape
• Pencil
• Compass ( or something to use to make a circle 13 inches in circumference)

Let’s Make It!

Fill your vessel with rice. Slip the sock over the top of the vessel filled with rice, holding onto the sock as you tip and pour the rice in. Give a little push to make sure the rice is all settled. Repeat until you reach the sock heel. Your filled rice gnome body should be approximately 5.5 inches tall and 13 inches around.

Gather it at the top of and secure it with a hair tie, ( or rubber band) leaving about 1.5 inches at the top. Cut off excess.

Run a line of hot glue around the top and carefully press the top of the sock fabric down all the way around. Until it is flattened. Be careful the glue may be hot. (Tip- try using the back of a spoon to press down).

To make the nose, go down about 3 inches from the top and grab rice and sock fabric, pull up and secure with a hair tie ( or rubber band).

Now it’s time to make the ghost costume. Cut out a 13-inch circle from the flour sack towel. Place the towel over the top of the gnome to determine where to cut the circle for his nose. Cut the circle and slip the towel over the nose.

Cut the faux fur into a triangle approximately 6.5 inches across and 5 inches long at the point. You will see that mine has a squared-off bottom. I was using scrap fabric. You can leave yours at a point. Glue it into place by adding glue across the straight edge.

Cut a half-circle 10.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches tall out of your felt, glue it together to make a cone hat. Slip the hat onto the gnomes head and push it down to meet the nose and cover the top of the faux fur beard. You can make a small notch in the center to go around the top of the nose, but that is optional. When you have it right where you want it, add a bit of glue underneath the rim of the hat to secure it in place.
