Snowflakery

Hello friends, snowflakery, hmmm that’s not even a word, is it? But, it is the perfect title for today. Utah is known for its snow, and this time of year people come from all over the world to ski the slopes, cross country ski, snowshoe the trails, ride their snowmobiles and attend the Sundance Film Festival.

We do have snow on the mountains but the Utah snowpack is far below average this year. The low snowpack creates problems statewide. Because Utah gets 95% of its water from snowfall each year.

Here in the valley, we are bereft of the cold fluffy stuff. I recently looked at my hubby and randomly asked, “where is winter?” It’s cold at night and in the early morning but we have had some “out of season” warmer days so far this year. Yesterday our daughter asked me “where is winter?” It’s obviously on everyone’s mind. It reminded me of a lovely snowman story.

Do you have snow where you live?

When our daughter was about 4 years old, we were living in California and it was hot. December brought a bit of rain but we literally wore shorts on Christmas day. We were watching Frosty the Snowman, he is the perfect example of snowflakery (smile) and she asked me, “when can we build a snowman?” I gave her the sad news that we don’t get any snow where we live. She was so disappointed. I shared this story with her godfather.

The following weekend we had a knock at the door. We opened it and saw a HUGE pile of snow had been piled on our front lawn. It was melting quickly so we all came together and made a wonderful snowman (while wearing shorts.)

How did this snowflakery story happen?

Her godfather and others had driven to Mount Pinos and filled the back of their pickup trucks with snow. About 50% of it melted by the time they made it to our house, but there was still plenty for making a snowman.

Do you have a snowflakery story? Please share it in the comments I’d love to read it.

I look forward to seeing you all back here on Thursday for the TFT (Thursday Favorite Things blog hop link party for blog writers and blog readers) party. The new giveaway starts on Saturday!

Aw, that is so sweet! We get snow but how much snow we get varies greatly from year to year or even storm to storm. This year we’ve had two big storms but then it warms up and either rains or melts within just a few a days. It’s been weird to say the least and we’ve learned to get outside and enjoy the snow before it’s gone.

That was really sweet of them to bring her some snow. We see it maybe once a year. Mostly it’s rain. Hope you get some snow soon.
