The Business Of Blogging
The Business Of Blogging
Once your blog is up and running and gaining popularity you have the opportunity to earn some money on your blog to help offset the cost of having a blog. Many bloggers use affiliate programs. They can be the easiest ways to make money with your blog. You usually just have to sign up to join the program. You can pick and choose which widgets (links) you would like to have on your sidebar. Most are simple click and get paid style. When someone clicks the link and makes a purchase, you’ll get a commission or a few cents (sometimes only 1 cent). Keep in mind that each affiliate program has a different method. It will be up to you to determine what works best for you.
Just a few more tips about monetizing your site. Keep your ads relevant to your blog topic or theme. If you are writing about home decorating a widget for lawnmowers would probably go unclicked. Do not flood your sidebar with a bunch of blinking ads or more than about 4 affiliate ads. That is precious real estate.
Here are a few affiliate options I found for you ( I do not endorse any particular affiliate, please do your research before joining) share a sale, link share, commission junction there are many others.
Selling Ads On Your Blog
When you have a nice following above 2000 followers you can consider offering ads for sale on your blog . I do recommend strongly that you keep your prices affordable. Keeping your prices reasonable can help you to have a steady ad revenue and repeat advertisers. Also consider ad swaps. Someone can put their ad on your blog in exchange for your ad being on theirs. provide a Media Kit for potential advertisers. ( I will share a sample in the future) 🙂

I don’t have ads or affiliate partnerships with anyone, but if I can find a non-intrusive method for my blog that is to my liking, then I wouldn’t mind exploring this more.
