Search Engine Optimization, this is how the little web crawlers ( robots, etc) discover your blogs information for distribution in search on the web. Through google, bing, yahoo. etc. Contents are scanned and the search engines pick out what is relevant to their search users. Think of keywords or phrases you would search for and be sure to include them in your tags and in your blog post.

 

Back It Up

Make sure you are updating your blog with all of the latest updates ( verify your plugins are compatible with the newest version). WordPress and other blog services keep things updated for us to help keep the integrity of our blogs safe.

Search

as long as I’m on the topic of searching always remember to have a search bar available on your blog.

URL

is the actual address on the internet of your blog, the blog post, etc. the universal resource indicator

Categories

are the areas within your blog that define the topics of your posts

Tags

are the keywords ( no more than 15) that are relevant to your blog post and are used for search

What is URL  It is the Uniform Resource Locator, and is used to identify a specific online address such as https://katherinescorner.com

What is a Permalink it is the link to a blog page or blog post ( the blog itself) it is the url address

 What Is html

You see it everywhere throughout the internet but what is it?

HTML is the building block each website is created with. It is a series of elements called tags and angle brackets like this

all buried with the contents of the page.

HTML tags normally come in pairs like

The first tag in a pair is the opening tag and the last is the closing tag.

Web browsers analyze the tags to interpret the content of the web page, blog, etc.

HTML is also what allows embedded objects and images to display and to be interactive ( click to go to location). Like for blog buttons.

I am not an expert on HTML codes. But, what I don’t know I can always research and find out.

Rel No Follow

I do recommend you use “rel=nofollow” for outgoing links .To many outgoing “regular” links on a post send up spammer flags to google and search engines. Using Rel=no follow links-  does not mean the link is not clickable,
it does not mean don’t follow the link. It does mean search engines and google will skip over it ( hopefully). You must be in html mode to create your link changes.

Fancy Fonts-

If you are considering adding “fancy fonts” to your blog please add no more than two. They look very pretty, but can also slow your site speed down. You can get FREE fonts at google.com/fonts

Button Button who has the button Blog buttons are images provided on many blog ( mine are here) that provide a code with an image advertising the blog. You copy the code and place it on your blog to share your favorite blogs with your readers. They are also used for blog hops and they are a nice way to link back to the blog where you are participating .
What is Link Back a link back is a nice way to say thank you to whomever is hosting a blog linky or party.
It is also necessary if you are sharing someones work or image.Please see how to create a link back in the business etiquette section.

Just a reminder about plugins, you must verify (through the plugin details) that they have updated their plugin to your latest version
