Okay this weeks little tid bit is that I was a vegetarian for many, many years. I didn’t eat anything that had a face. But, after several years I started having some medical issues and the Doctors said I wasn’t getting enough protein ( from the legumes, beans, etc,). Long story shot, I eat meat now. Chicken, fish, pork and the occasional red meat. We still have plenty of meatless meals though.
As long as I’m writing about vegetables . Did you know you can microwave corn on the cob while it is still in the husk. Just wet a paper towel and wrap it around the corn cob husk and all. Place it on a microwave dish and cook in the microwave for 3 minutes ( per cob). Remove it from the microwave and let it sit for a few minutes. Carefully peel back a few of the husks . Using a pot holder( or tea towel) grab the stem end and squeeze carefully ( like a tube of toothpaste) and the corn cob slides out of the husk. No silks either they stay behind in the husk.Yum.
An easy way to get rid of silks, hurrah! :)Thanks for the informative share.
Hi Katherine,
Congrats to Barb! I had to laugh when I read your tid-bit. My brother just told me about this method a few days ago and we made corn on the cob last Saturday. This really does work like a charm! It sure saves on washing a big pot.
Congratulations to Barbara! She is such a sweetheart.
Good luck with your healthy diet. I don’t eat much meat either. Just enough for the protein.
Dee
My parents always do their corn in the microwave and it’s delicious! I’ll bet a lot of people haven’t tried it that way!

Yeh, I love Barbara!! Congrats sweet Barbara!
We have done our corn on the cob in the microwave for years. We love the fresher taste and not having to heat up the kitchen with a pot of boiling water.
I have never tried doing it in the husks. That will be on the menu tomorrow night.
We shop grocerys on Wednesday and that is one item we always prepare on Wednesday. Thanks for the tip.
Hugs, Ginger
Hi Katie! I emailed you with my info. Thanks again, this was such a nice surprise while having my morning coffee! Can’t wait to receive it.
I cook many veggies in the microwave, corn, asparagus, broccoli, are my top three. xo
Congratulations to the winner! My daughter tried to go veggie for a while and ended up with iron deficiency anemia — she must have been doing something wrong!!
hi there my friend! love the corn on the cob tip : ) as far as the vegetarian end of life — it is now 16 years of pure veggie life : ) my primary reason is of course my love of animals: ) it is amazing though…i found out that i had a rare heriditary heart disease 5 years ago and i had to undergo an extensive open heart surgery procedure…one where they actually removed a piece of the heart and placed in a mechanical mitral valve — it is awesome what they can do…but one thing i will remember always is the surgeon asked me what do you eat? are you a vegetarian and of course i said yes…he said plain and simple…it saved your life…everything pumping into the heart was crystal clear : ) and that was an excellent thing considering the shape of the rest of it : ) so i got a BIG fringe benefit without even trying : ) sending tons of hugs to you and yours a even BIGGER hugs to my friend Izzy!!!! : ) pops and basil send Izzy doxie hugs too! love you!! : )
My story is similar to yours, Katie. For a few years I went the vegetarian route until my doctor strongly advised me to add meat back into my diet. Reluctantly, I did so, but eat very little of it. For twenty or more years I’ve been eating a generous quantity of raw peanuts every day as a source of protein. I enjoy corn on the cob regardless of where or how it is prepared. Have a super week, dear friend Katie!
Congratulations Barbara! How exciting for you!!
I have just decided to no longer eat meat…for many different reasons. My children and husband still eat meat but we do eat a lot of vegetarian meals now. I have been wondering about the protein and iron and even more so after reading your story and the comment above..
I love corn with a little butter on it and will try your tip for sure 🙂
Happy Tuesday! XO
Congratulations, Barbara!
I’ve never done corn on the cob in the microwave, just corn off the cob. Sure had some good grilled corn (in the husk) Saturday before last. Yum!
