How To Have A Successful Blog Series
How to Have a Successful Blog Series without having a nervous breakdown.
Part One- I haven’t shared any blogging tips for a while, so today I’m sharing, “How to Have a Successful Blog Series” without having a nervous breakdown. I am sharing the basics, some of the success and some of the pit falls from my experience. I hope, if you are a blogger, you will find this helpful and if you are a reader of blogs you will know how important you are in blog topic decisions.
I am always happy to answer questions, please contact me if you prefer not to leave your question in the comment area below. Having a blog series is a serious undertaking. My most recent blog series, “Between the Lines”, was a success despite a few setbacks. I have had a couple other blog series; do you remember “Tid Bits Tuesday”? But, the “Between the Lines” blog series had the most page views each week with a little over 12,000 on an average per day. Some blog series will have many more and some will have less. Either way, if you finish your blog series with a smile on your face it is a success.
Are you ready for a bit of irony? This tutorial is part one of two!
So, let’s start with the basics, a blog series is a post on a topic that you think is interesting enough to warrant more than one post. Or that is a post on a topic that may be too complex, or too wordy to fit into one post. Essentially any two posts that have the same topic are safe to consider a series. But, you don’t want to fly to fast and loose with that either. Two posts with 2000 words, won’t keep your readers attention. So spread it out over few posts and try and keep your blog posts between 300-450 words.

Topic-
You need an interesting topic that fits the readership of your blog. That sounds easy enough. But you also need a topic that will be of interest to new readers, will generate some SEO benefits and grab your current reader’s interest too. So give it a lot of thought. Once you have identified your topic you need to make a good old fashioned outline. How long do you plan to run the series, every day for a week, every other day, every week for 6 weeks or maybe even once a week for 10 weeks? As long as you are confident that the reader’s interest will last for ten weeks. I think that a blog series should be no more than 10 weeks long with once a week posting, with the only exception being a complex tutorial. If you plan to have guests, set up a schedule and a list of who you want to invite, and confirm they are interested or have something of interest to share in your series.
Part two of How To Have A Successful Blog Series without having a nervous breakdown will be posted on Tuesday.
