Drought Tolerant Flowers
Hello friends, it’s officially summer and we are water rationing here because we are officially in a drought. That’s right, two “officially” in that sentence. We’re only allowed to water on certain days and for about 20 minutes. When you drive through our neighborhood lush green lawns are a dead giveaway for those who aren’t following the rules. Our flowers are withering away, my sweet hubby’s veggie garden is only half it’s size, and I’ve been calling the brown spots on the lawn polka dots. Because Polka dots just sounds better than brown spots ( smile). A few of the flowers we have in our garden are drought tolerant flowers. But I think next year I’ll be adding some more drought tolerant flowers to the garden and containers .
These lovely flowers are just a few of the drought tolerant flowers I found in researching what new flowers to add to our garden next year. You’ll need to check your states planting hardiness zone to make sure these flowers will grow where you live.
I love lavender, the fragrance is almost intoxicating. On a side note-I put lavender soap in my linen closet to keep everything smelling fresh. Just unwrap the bar of soap and place it on a dish or the box it came in and put it in your closets, drawers, etc. Lavender is drought tolerant and the bees and hummingbirds love it.
The bottlebrush flower is not only drought tolerant, but looks like a flower from an episode of Star Trek. Yes, my nerdiness is showing (smile).
California poppies are the California state flower. But these naturally seeding wildflowers can be spotted in several other states too. I saw a lot of them in Oregon.
Have you ever grown a wildflower garden?
The Princess flower is actually a flowering bush (shrub). It has flowers in varying shades of purple and blooms throughout the summer. Purple is my favorite color!
I hope this list of drought tolerant flowers will inspire you to do a bit of gardening.
Are you growing any of these lovely drought tolerant flowers in your garden?

I have lavender everywhere in the front and backyard. It just loves the Idaho heat and the bees adore it too!
Have you been as hot as we are here in Utah? Lavender near a veggie garden is always nice for bringing in the bees ( smile) , I bet your lavender looks amazing. Hugs!
I really enjoy your blog! It’s refreshing and inspiring, and I want to thank you for sharing it … and for sharing your story as well. Sending you great energy.
