DIY Decoupage
Dear friends, a couple of week’s ago I extended an invitation to join me in creating something with decoupage. Two lovely bloggy friends accepted the invitation. Thank you to Barbara from FrenchEthereal.net and Michelle from OurCraftyMom.com for joining me. Please visit and leave some comment love on their posts. (smile)
I made some pretty planters for the one plant I can’t kill (smile) actually there are two plant species, philodendron and pothos. They are both great for those of us without a green thumb. You all know my hubby is the gardener in the family.
Let’s make a mess!
I’m a fan of blue and white pottery, the Chinoiserie style. I have these on the table in our dining area. So I used some blue and white tissue with a lovely pattern.
WHAT YOU NEED
- planter pot ( plastic or ceramic)
- decorative tissue paper
- Mod Podge ( or home made decoupage)
- A sponge brush
- scissors
- Gloves and water sprayer (optional)
I started by laying the planter pot across the tissue to make sure I had enough. It fit just right, so I was off to a good start.
Then I covered the planter pot with mod podge using my sponge painter. It was smooth sailing. I managed to spread all that you see here all of the way around the plastic planter pot.
I trimmed the edges and left enough on top to fold down into the pot to keep the edge covered. I did the same on the bottom. I let it dry for about 10 minutes then I did a layer od mod podge all over to finish it. I let it dry overnight then added soil and the pathos plant starters.
Full disclosure, I had intended on a smooth finish but when I saw the wrinkles I actually liked the look. It gave it some added texture. If you don;t want to have wrinkles in yours you can spray a little water ( very lightly) onto the wrinkles and gently flatten them out with your finger.
After I finished it I decided to make a second one…….and well, a third one too!
I think the blue and white ones will eventually be placed on the mantel, one on each end. The room gets a lot of light in the afternoon so I think they will be happy there.
Will you be trying this fun DIY decoupage craft?

Katherine, I’m happy to be participating in this decoupage challenge with you and Barbara. I am a huge fan of chinoiserie so your blue and white flower pot really speaks to me. It is just lovely. Thank you so much for hosting and sharing your beautiful craft!
Thank you Michelle for joining in the fun, and for your lovely compliment. I hope to have new “crafty” challenges in the future. I really enjoyed playing with the decoupage. Hugs!
Katherine, thanks so much for inviting me to participate in today’s découpage crafting challenge with you and Michelle! I love how all three of our projects turned out so differently, although we all used napkins as our decorating choice. I do love blue and white chinoiserie pots and have a few myself. I think your pothos will be very happy in their new ones!
Happy Mother’s Day to you and thanks again for a fun project,
Big hugs,
Barb 🙂
