Independent Artist
Independent Artist
When you think of independent artists does it bring to mind a musician or musical group that hasn’t been discovered yet? Or do you think of quilt makers, textile artists, interior designers, painters, sewers, wood workers, potters, photographers, watch and jewelry makers? There are many more categorizes to discover too. Today is the perfect day to share a bit about independent artists and small businesses who may be overlooked.
Being an Independent artist, designer and online shop owner at Katherines Corner Shops allows me the joy of creating for others. I am fortunate that the internet provides me the opportunity to reach customers around the world. Advertising is very cost prohibited. I count on my blog and customers to spread the word. For me, the best advertisement is a happy customer. Kevin Bacon has 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. I would love to have 6 degrees of Katherine (wink) a lofty goal I know. But wouldn’t that be great?
I am so grateful to those who are drawn to independent artists and love the charm of owning a handmade piece. But, there’s a lot of competition out there in cyber space and in your neighborhood too. It is very difficult for independent artists and “Mom and Pop shops ” to compete with big companies and their mass produced items and often outsourced inexpensive labor and materials. Sadly, all to often, independent artists and handmade artists are overlooked. The corner market falls into the shadows of the big box stores. But, I think there can be room for all of us. Today is a very special day for me and for other independent artists and small businesses too. It is Shop Small Saturday when we ask you to shop small ( small business, small shops).
Please shop small.
Will you shop small and with independent artists today?

I did my Saturday shopping locally this weekend. Found some great gifts and supported my local economy and mom/pop shops!
So nice view in deed
Thanks for sharing this, Katherine! Pinned!
I love shopping with independent artists and have done it a lot in the past and will hopefully do it more this holiday season. Thanks for the reminder here to support them and Happy Weekend, too Katie xoxo 😉
