Road Trip
I hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day weekend and for those wonderful bloggy friends outside the US, I hope your week is off to a great start. Hubby and I often satisfy a bit of wanderlust with a road trip to Idaho on long weekends. It’s only a little over an hour away and can I let you in on a little secret? It is the drive I love. No there isn’t anything really amazing to see along the way. But…we sing, we reminisce, we chat and we eat snacks. It’s a wonderful way to make memories. Our sweet fur baby Izzy is always happy to go on a road trip, he is always content when we three are all together.
Izzy checks his road trip bag and looks soulfully at me as if to say, “I’m coming with you, right? Did you pack my treats (cheerios)? The smoke from the California and Oregon wildfires left a heavy haze in the sky. But it was still a lovely day for our road trip.
A little hot, but thankfully hubby tolerates the frozen tundra I create in the truck with the air conditioning on high ( can we build a snowman?)
We found wild sunflowers on nearly every road.
We pulled into a nice shady spot close to the river for a picnic. I started setting up under a tree and the bees were relentless.
So we moved it all into the truck and had a dashboard picnic instead. A little way up the river we saw these happy tubers enjoying the last bit of play before the season change. I love this giant rubber duck! We always stop at two places on Idaho trips, a little gas station in Idaho that sells lottery tickets and Paul’s Patch, in Perry Utah for some fruit and hopefully some ambrosia corn on the cob. We struck out on the corn this year ( fortunately our local farm has some). We did get some nice plump fuzzy peaches though. When we came home from our big adventure we all took a nap, yes you read that right. A little road trip makes us all sleepy. I’m sure we drive through a mist of tryptophan on our way home from our road trips (wink). It is all part of the road trip journey.
When was the last time you took a road trip?
I look forward to seeing you back here on Thursday for the best blog party for blog writers and blog readers in blog land!
Katherine, We give Sadie Cheerios for treats, too! The Vet recommended them to us, along with rice cakes and carrots. I love road trips and I wish we took them more than we do.
I enjoyed traveling along on your road trip. It was so calming and relaxing. When’s the next one?!
Hi Katherine, I came back because I didn’t think my comment posted… Loved looking at your road trip. I miss having someone to do that with… the singing, laughing and remembering. So sweet Izzy likes to come along. xoxox, Brenda
Katherine, That’s my idea of bliss… I miss having someone to do that with, and Izzy is adorable! I can tell in one of those pictures you’re on a back, country road. Those are the best. xoxox, Brenda
So happy you had a good road trip and the scenery along the way was beautiful. And, oh, that sweet Izzy’s face!!
Nothing like a little getaway even for just a day.
Road trips involve a lot of traffic out here, so I usually cringe when we have travel anywhere.
Oh, I love a road trip with my hubby! Yours looks perfect!
Hi! Well, the last road trip we took was not for fun. My Joe’s brother has brain cancer and it came back, so we took an emergency trip to Fl. He had his second craniotomy! He is still with us but the prognosis is between 6 and 9 months. He is a very private person so there is nothing on FB or any social media about this.
What a beautiful road trip! My husband and I have a favorite road trip too. There is a candy store along the route, and I always get taffy. Your pictures are amazing! What beautiful scenery.
Looks like the perfect road trip to me and glad you and your hubby got to take it this past weekend. Happy Tuesday now, my friend xoxo <3
We went down the Flint River in kayaks. Really sore this morning from all that rowing!
