DIY Vanity Stand
It’s a rainy day here today, you know I love the rain. It’s the perfect time to do something crafty. Mother’s day is on Sunday, here in the US. So I am posting this cute DIY vanity stand today, just in case you might like to make one for your Mother, Grandmother, Friend, etc.
I have several cake plates, aka, cake stands. I use a few of them for a variety of purposes other than holding a delicious dessert. I use them for lifting props in the background for photos, for home decor and in the kitchen too.
Why am I sharing my cake plates? Because this vanity stand could be used as a cake plate too. Never forget there are many new uses for old things everywhere you look ( wink). Please CLICK HERE to see more new uses for old things.
Okay put your crafty hat on and let’s DIY this vanity stand my friends.
What You Need
- 2 clear plates ( the same size)
- a glass jar, candlestick or another clear glass piece for the pedestal
- a scrap of fabric big enough to cover the plate
- scissors
- clear dry gorilla glue ( or E6000). Please save the hot glue for another day, please don’t use hot glue for this bit of craftiness.
- pom pom trim
- ruler or measuring tape
- scotch tape
- paper towels
Let’s make it!
Add glue to the interior edge of the first plate. Using a paper towel, spread the glue evenly all around the inside edge of the first plate. Add a piece of fabric right side up. Using a paper towel, spread the glue evenly all around the back edge of the second plate and place the second plate on top of the fabric covered plate and let it sit for a few hours. The weight of the second plate will help the fabric to adhere properly to both plates.
Now that your plates are glued together ( the glue went through the fabric and the plates are glued together with the fabric in the middle). Using scissors, trim off the excess fabric from around the plates.
Turn it over and find the center ( using a ruler or measuring tape.) Add glue to the piece you have selected for the pedestal, and place it in the center, let it dry. When it’s dry turn the stand over and add your trim. Start by adding glue to the edge and placing your trim a little at a time along the edge. I used scotch tape to keep it in place while it dried.
It’s time for your ta daa moment!
