Finding Peace
Hello friends, finding peace doesn’t mean there will be no disagreements. I know we can’t all agree 100 percent of the time. But disagreements no matter how BIG, or how small, can be discussed in a civil, educated and respectful manner.” How can you hear a cry for peace if everyone around you is shouting?” ~ Katherine M. Corrigan
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we celebrate a man whose main mission in life was to create unity, equality, and peace. Today honors his life and accomplishments as an influential civil rights leader and celebrates his work for advancing the civil rights of minorities.
It is the perfect time in our country to put in mind and put in motion the quotes I share with you today. I am not a Pollyanna (an excessively cheerful or optimistic person). Although I do believe I am a cheerful and optimistic person. I do not wear rose colored glasses 24/7. I try to be realistic, okay sometimes I wear them.
I pray you will feel the hope I’m sharing with you and that these quotes remind you that peace is always possible if we all work together and accept that change takes time. Achieving peace is an ongoing process of sharing and considerate discussions that focus on collaboration to achieve the ultimate goal of finding peace.
“Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” ~ Albert Einstein
“Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Peace, there is a light in this world. A healing spirit more powerful than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force when there is suffering and too much pain. Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call and answer in extraordinary ways.” ~ Sir Richard Attenborough
I’ll close with this quote that reflects the desire for peace so sincerely it was said the night before he died.
“More than just an end to war, we want an end to the beginnings of all wars.” ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt
Our country is at war with each other. Be a tool for peace. I ask you to join me in prayer that peace will come as a direct result of respect and understanding.
Wishing you all a peaceful day. xo

These are beautiful quotes, Katherine. I, too, am hoping for more peace, and I agree, respect and understanding are so crucial. And empathy. xo
thank you my friend xo
