Thoughts on February
Hello friends, ahhh February the shortest month of the year, only 28 days long, and it is still filled with all kinds of awesome. Thoughts on February usually lead to thoughts on Valentine’s day. But February celebrates other wonderful things too.
Black History Month
Its National Rosa Parks day tomorrow it is also known as the day of courage. It still makes me tingle when I read this, “On that day, she rejected the bus driver’s order to give up her seat in the “colored” section of the bus to a white passenger, after the whites-only section had already been filled. She was then arrested and convicted of violating the laws of segregation.” She was able to appeal her conviction, and she formally challenged the segregation laws in the process. February 4th is her birthday although it isn’t a national holiday it is definitely a celebration. Rosa Parks day may also be recognized on Dec 1 when the event that got the nation thinking occurred. This courageous act has become a symbol of the Civil Rights Movement.
Groundhog Day
Yesterday was groundhog day. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and it looks like we’re in for 6 more weeks of winter ( smile). We were bracing for a storm last night, but it skipped right over us. We need more snow!! I’m ready to build a snowman.
Super Bowl
Although it’s not a “holiday” it is a BIG huge mega-deal for sports fans. Ummm.. and snack fans too, that’s me, Go Sports! This year will look a lot different in the stands. But armchair quarterbacks will watch with excitement as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do their best to earn that trophy.
Valentine’s Day
Of course, my thoughts on February would not be complete without a mention of the happy hearts day we all call Valentine’s Day. Hubby and I enjoy a nice meal and exchange cards ( I usually get flowers). But we don’t jump “all in” for this holiday. I love this quote by Katharine Hepburn, “ Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get. Only with what you are expecting to give, which is everything”
How do you celebrate valentine’s day?
I look forward to seeing what you’ll be sharing at tomorrow’s TFT blog hop link party.
Wishing you all a day filled with happy xo
We don’t usually do a lot on Valentine’s Day, because my birthday is on the 8th, and I tend to get spoiled for that whole week before Valentines Day! haha One year we said, “Let’s go out to eat,” on Valentine’s Day and didn’t make reservations. We were so naive to think we could get in anywhere and just went home. That was years ago! Yes, snacks are my favorite thing about the Super Bowl!
I love the Braided Leather Bracelet!
I love those Sea Glass earrings! So pretty!
I get my wife something for Valentine’s Day but we certainly don’t go out to eat. That’s just nuts.
Will watch the Super Bowl, but I skipped a lot of the games earlier in the season. I just want to watch a game, not get preached at.
You’re right it is crazy on Valentine’s day and Mother’s day too. I remember going to ihop and taking my Mother and our daughter and granddaughter we waited for over an hour and then got squished in a table in the corner and they wanted to take our plates before we’d even finished. We always stay home. The best food is cooked here anyway. enjoy the game my friend. Hugs!
