How To Make A Witch’s Broom
Hello friends, I was sorting through some craft goodies the other day and I came across a witch broom I made when I was a brownie troop leader ( many years ago). It is a simple and inexpensive craft. Its perfect for vignettes, miniatures displays and of course for Halloween decor. I know Halloween isn’t until next month. But, many of you like to decorate early.
I decorate a little bit, just this corner in the kitchen ( for our grandchildren to enjoy) . The ghost in the bottle is motion sensitive and lets out a howl when you pass by. (smile)
It makes our younger grandchildren giggle. I gave one of these to a sweet friend of mine who loves Halloween. I think it makes her smile too.
As I gathered together the supplies to make a new broom for this post I thought I would check and see if anyone else has a tutorial about how to make a witch’s broom ( I always like to be as original as possible). I found a plethora, always a fun word to use ( overabundance-excess ) of tutorials on how to make a witch’s broom in all different shapes and sizes.
My simple tutorial is below along with several others you can try. images belong to their respective blogs and are linked to their tutorials.
I used a green feather boa around the pumpkins, I think it may be a candidate for new uses for old things 🙂
How To Make a Witch’s Broom Using a Paintbrush
- What You Need
- Dollar store paint brush ( coarse bristles work best)
- Dowel ( or cake pop stick, or unsharpened pencil)
- Floral wire or rubber bands
- Wire snips
- Tape ( optional)
- Glue
- Scissors
Turn the bristles of the brush to face you, add glue to the dowel/stick, insert the dowel/stick into the center of a two inch section of the paintbrush bristles,
Gather the bristles around the dowel/stick and tie with floral wire or rubber bands. (Use tape if it helps to keep them all together before you wrap your wire or rubber band)This is the top of the broom. Repeat for each section. Let dry for about 15 minutes. ,Using your scissors carefully cut away the bristles from the handle of the paintbrush.Select sections of the bristles and tie with floral wire or rubber bands.
That’s it, simple I know, but always worth a” ta-daa” moment!
