Room Design Giveaway and Interview with Deborah DiMare Rosenberg
Room Design Giveaway and Interview with Deborah DiMare Rosenberg
Room Design Giveaway and Interview with Deborah DiMare Rosenberg -Many of you may already be familiar with the lovely and talented interior decorator and founder of DiMare Designs, Deborah DiMare (Rosenberg) from the TLC television show “In A Fix” and other popular home makeover programs. Deborah believes the optimal environment can help someone gain control over their personal and professional life. Deborah calls it “Design with Direction.” It is my pleasure to share my interview with Deborah and to provide Katherines Corner readers with the opportunity to win an Online Interior Design Room Makeover ( $249 value) too. Deborah has recently created a virtual interior design website service, Ddigz. It is perfect for those of us on a strict budget. Please join me in welcoming Deborah to Katherines Corner .♥
Deborah, thank you for agreeing to share some of your design wisdom with Katherines Corner readers. Please tell us about yourself and your website.
I’m originally from New York, born and raised. We moved to Miami 18 years ago. I have twin girls who are 20 and the love of my life. My other love is our dog. We are a real dog family. I am self-taught. When my girls were entering first grade, I wanted to break out of being a full time mommy and do something part time. I decorated my friend’s home for fun. Before I knew it, I had all these people asking me to design their spaces. I then became a lead designer on two national weekly tlc design shows. It was crazy
I have two websites; one is for luxury design and its dimaredesign.com the other is new and its ddigz.com . I’m so excited about it. Its design done on a dime and it is all done via a skype call. I saw a real need for it. Most people wish they could afford a designer and with my service, now they can. We help them with whatever they need, paint colors, layouts, furniture whatever is on their “to do list “ and more. It’s been great.
How did you know you wanted to work in interior design? How long have you been creating? My first real job was helping a client pick fabric for pillows. I loved it. Being in the fabric store with tons of colors and pattern, it was like a candy shop for me. Working in interior design just came natural to me. I always say that my forte is that I know the gut of a client. I’ve been designing spaces for 12 years. Each day is different, new people and new challenges.
What are the most common decorating mistakes made by homeowners? The most common mistakes I see is that they buy things too impulsively, bring them home and they don’t fit size or design wise. Also they mix many styles together. An eclectic look is one of my favorites. However, it must be done with a professional eye or it looks like a garage sale.
Do you have any design rules? Many…
1. Design with direction; every space must have a goal or it’s just a pretty place with no soul.
2. Your space should be like a romantic partner; it should complete you, make you feel secure and safe, bring you happiness and accept you for all your flaws.
3. A space should be designed around you and your sensory needs. You should not need to change who and what you are and need sensory wise for the space.
What do you do first when preparing to design/decorate for a client? I talk the heck out of the client. I ask the weirdest questions a decorator could ever ask, such as what did you eat for breakfast? I confirm the direction and goal of the space for today and for 5 years from now.
What colors will we be seeing this year? What trends? Yellow and gray. Lots of yellow
Please share one of your favorite before and afters.
You can find some great before and afters Here
What is your “must have” accent piece? Hanging chairs and bean bags… I’m addicted to them. They are the perfect sensory products known to mankind. 🙂
Design illustration for a children’s room.
What is your favorite room to design and decorate? I love all spaces. But playrooms and children’s spaces are so much fun. One can never get too creative in children’s spaces.
What inspires you? So many things, my children (one of my daughters has sensory issues). I became very in touch with how our spaces affect us in every way, shape and manner. I became so in tune with it, that I lecture and write on my ideas about sensory design. Animals also inspire me, their movement and coloring. I don’t follow “trends.” If it works for you and your family, that’s what I follow.
How would you describe your personal design style? Clean and warm. I love many styles; classic, modern, rustic etc. But I like a very organized looking space, no clutter and lots of light.
Deborah, thank you for spending time with me and my sweet bloggy friends. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and to learn some valuable home decor tips.
