Saturday Angel Stories Mr. Caters Garden
Hello friends, Ruth and Douglas Cater met and married in the same month, they were very happy and had recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. When Mr. Cater lost his battle with lymphoma a few month’s ago Mrs. Cater went to stay with her sister for a while. One afternoon on a neighborhood walk, several ladies stopped to look at the Cater house. It’s quaint country cottage style was so welcoming. They reminisced about chats and garden tips enjoyed with Mr. Cater. Then they noticed how the flower garden had become overgrown. The neighbors had been taking turns mowing the lawn and getting the mail but Mr. Cater’s garden had gone untended.
Mr. Cater would spend hours, often well into the evening tending to every beautiful bloom that filled the yard with color. He planted coral roses for Mrs. Cater several years ago. He said the color reminded him of the color of the dress she wore on their first date.
They knew Mrs. Cater was scheduled to come home at the end of the week. She was kind and friendly and sorely missed. One of the ladies started crying, expressing her sorrow over Mrs. Cater’s loss and how they needed to gather the neighbors together and “tidy” Mr. Cater’s garden.
The following morning 20 or more neighbors ( big and small) gathered in the driveway at the Cater’s home. There was a line of wheelbarrows filled with, potting soil, garden tools and plenty of pretty flowers ready to find their new home in Mr. Cater’s Garden. They all worked together for two days and the result of their hard work was remarkable.
At the end of the week they all gathered together and welcomed Mrs. Cater home, one of the tiny gardeners held a sign that read, ” we love you”. Mrs. Cater was overjoyed and happy tears flowed freely among them all. As Mrs. Cater walked the garden with her neighbors delighting in everything they had done to restore Mr. Cater’s Garden. She stopped and admired the coral roses he had planted for her. They seemed brighter in color and the flowers a bit bigger than she remembered. Mrs. Cater heard a soft whisper, “you are surrounded by angels my love”.
