Izzy Gets an Implant

Hello friends, our sweet boy Izzy has been through the mill lately. Poor baby. If you are new to my blog, welcome, Izzy is the official blog dog here at Katherines Corner (smile). If you missed the previous post please click HERE. I must preface this post by mentioning it has one photo that may be uncomfortable for some to see, and blood is mentioned. Okay lets move on to Izzy gets an implant.

Attaching the Freestyle Libre 2 sensor to Izzy’s back took about a minute. The area was shaved and the implant was attached using the two small needles that puncture the skin, and a bit of medical glue was also used to keep it from moving around. Currently I give him to insulin injections twice a day. This sensor will provide essential glucose readings.

Our nephew stopped by over the weekend, Izzy loves him so much, there was a lot of excitement. We were telling our nephew about Izzy’s recent diabetes diagnosis and about the Freestyle Libre 2 implant he would be wearing. I mentioned I was concerned he would roll around on it and possibly pull it off. Side note-it is a challenge to give belly rubs to Izzy when there is a device on his back. He said, ” oh no problem, you can get him a t-shirt to keep it covered.” Well….. that is a brilliant idea, and not one we had even considered.

Hubby and I are not dress up your dog people, but we respect and do not judge others who love their dogs and like them to look in fashion or extra cute. So my hubby headed to Petco for a shirt for Izzy and I ordered some on Amazon too. The t shirts are the perfect solution for covering the Freestyle Libre 2 sensor implant on his back.

  

Now I need to share what happened on Saturday. When hubby and I arrived home from the market we saw blood on the floor and on Izzy’s blanket….Izzy had discovered the growth (mole shown in previous post, it is being biopsied) on his chest and it was obvious he had tried to remove it. Eeeek! So I cleaned Izzy, the blankets and floor etc. and “fashioned” a sanitary bandage and wrapped it around him using a stretch ace bandage to keep it in place.

Our Vet preformed an emergency removal of the mole, so it wasn’t as in depth as a scheduled surgery. But he thinks he “got it all”. Yes it was very badly mangled. Our Vet, Dr. Toniolli said it looked like a walnut broken in two. So the t shirt is pulling “double duty” and keeping the bandage on his chest in place too.

So there you have it, we’ll go back next week to have the sutures removed ( there are a couple inside that will dissolve). We will start using the Free Style Libre 2 glucose sensor today.
