Wanderlust
Wanderlust
Hubby and I experience a sense of wanderlust several times a year, ” ˈwändərˌləst/noun-a strong desire to travel”. Yesterday I shared my favorite thing, a beautiful horse prancing in a pasture. We spotted her on our … hold on to your hats people, camping trip! I am not one who enjoys “roughing it” . But hubby loves it, so we found a wonderful compromise. Instead of a tent for camping, we borrowed our daughter and son in law’s travel trailer ( I still refer to it as a camper) and we hit the road! Taking with us many of the conveniences of home. The destination for our get away was Henrys Lake State Park in Idaho. It is about 15 minutes from Yellowstone Nation Park.
Please hum or sing Willie Nelson’s song, on the road again here ( wink). We enjoyed a lovely drive through the tree covered mountains. When we reached our destination. We were pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful place to park our camper. Hubby had booked a spot for us well in advance and it was perfect. We left 100 degree temperatures behind and enjoyed highs of 75 with intermittent rain storms.
Our camp site had such a beautiful view of the lake, it was just a stones throw away.
This mailbox gave me the giggles.
Early morning was my favorite time of day watching the pelicans as they gathered and came to rest in the out stretched part of the lake.
I made toast in the oven and it turned out beautifully thanks to the kitchen in the camper.
Set the oven to 275 and place bread on baking sheet .
Bake for about 10 minutes then turn over and bake for another 10 minutes ( or until golden)
We had plenty of visitors to our campsite with these ground squirrels ( prairie dogs) popping up constantly like moles in the “whack a mole” arcade game.
Izzy kept a close eye on them as they popped in and out .
Izzy was watching this one very closely.
One made himself cozy in our fire pit ( we did not light a fire).
Izzy was a very happy camper laying in the sun and then napping with his favorite toy.
We had mushroom burgers for dinner one night ( no photo, we were hungry) and I made Spaghetti the next night.
I know it is not your typical camping dinner. But, I made it all ahead of time and then just microwaved it .
Starting the day with the giggles is a great day.
Hubby went fishing . He was balancing on rocks as he cast his line.
Izzy and I enjoyed the time just relaxing.
Don’t you just love this sign!
We went for plenty of drives and spent 2 hours driving around the lake.
We used snow mobile ruts as roads to make it through. It was fun in our four wheel drive truck.
There were beautiful wild flowers everywhere.
I have a real fear of bears and being so close to Yellowstone meant we were seeing a lot of beware of bears signs. Thank goodness we did not run into any.
I took a few magazines to read and we kept so busy I hardly had a chance to read.
It was hard to leave such a tranquil place. We started looking for used travel trailers as soon as we got home, we hope to do this many more times in the future.
Do you get wanderlust? How will you satisfy your craving to travel?

What a lovely setting. WE love to go camping and so do our dogs. Your camper looks a lot like ours, especially the stove. It takes some getting use to but the people we meet are just wonderful.
Glad you had a relaxing, great time,
Bev

Definitely God’s country!! Such beautiful pictures…tranquil and perfect!!! I rather like your idea of camping…when I was growing up, camping was backpacking! I had spent many a week backpacking in the Sierras and Ruby Mountains. At my age, I think your camping would be much better! When I get the urge to travel these days, I hop in my car and visit family and friends, from Washington to Florida! It is fabulous to drive across the country and rarely have to stay in a hotel! My new travel destination will be Oahu as my daughter is moving there next week – I’m thinking those visits will have to be 4-6 weeks long, right?
Looks like fun. We have a “camper” too and love our adventures in, what I call, “Glamping.”
