Optimistic
Hello friends, I am an optimistic person; I wear that badge proudly. You all are familiar with this statement, “is your glass half full or half empty?” If you say the glass is half empty, you see the world in a negative way, or pessimistic way. If you say the glass is half full, you have a more optimistic viewpoint.
I have been called the ultimate optimist my whole life. Finding the light in the shadows and the promise of possibilities when others see none.
But, I have also said, “I am blessed to have something in the glass”. I started saying that when I was a young Mother. I do not remember what sparked that reply, but I have held on to it for a lifetime. I even heard my daughter say it recently. Maybe she heard it from me, maybe she thought of it on her own. Either way, I think it is lovely that she feels that way.
I know, you are probably thinking, is that optimism, or is it gratitude? I believe gratitude is associated with optimism. I believe people who express gratitude regularly are, happier, less stressed, and are surely not pessimistic.
Can you be optimistic and still be realistic?
I think so. I think realism is found right in the middle of optimism and pessimism. A realistic person will explain things just as they are. A realistic optimist (I think I may also be a “realistic optimist”). Does that too, but remains positive and hopeful of a favorable outcome, while keeping positive and meeting the challenge to obtain it.
So… as you step outside and celebrate the “unofficial” start of summer. Try being a realistic optimist. Making happy memories while remaining safe by being aware, and wearing a mask, physical distancing, etc.
Are you an Optimist, Pessimist or Realistic Optimist?
Happy Memorial Day! Enjoy your long weekend and I look forward to seeing you back here on Tuesday. xo
