Sylvia an Angel Story
Hello friends, Robins were flying in and out of the bird feeder filling their tummies with the fresh birdseed Sylvia left for them every morning. This spring morning ritual was one she truly enjoyed, she could sit and watch them for hours. But, on that particular morning she waked away. She went to the laundry room and took warm towels out of the dryer to fold and put away. When she came to the light blue towel embroidered with the word his, she held it on her face letting the warmth color her cheeks. She put them all away in the linen closet and wandered into the quiet kitchen for a second cup of tea.
Sylvia always drank her tea in a chipped mug that read, “gone f wish’n”. She sat quietly at the table nibbling on toast and drinking from the chipped cup. Outside the birds were singing loudly and she thought about how much she loved spring in her little piece of paradise on 5 acres of rich grassy land. Her thoughts drifted to memories of her children and grandchildren hunting for Easter eggs in their yard over the years. Soon her great grandchildren will do the same, and new memories will be made.
The ringing of her cell phone broke the silence. She glanced at the phone to see who was calling. It was her friend Annie, from a few miles down the road, she didn’t usually call so early. Sylvia answered and heard, “good morning darling, I’m just checking in on you. Are you doing okay today? Let’s have lunch at the park”. Sylvia didn’t respond straight away, she continued to sip her tea. “Sylvia, are you there darling?” “Yes, yes”, Sylvia said, “I’m here, I’m sorry, not today, especially not today.” But, Annie insisted, “I will not accept no for an answer. I’ll pick you up at noon.” Annie hung up, and Sylvia still holding the phone in one hand took another sip of tea and looked up at the clock. It was 11:40, Annie would be there in 20 minutes!
Sylvia pulled her long white hair back in a fancy braid and changed into her cherry covered spring dress. She took a look in the full-length mirror straightening the belt a bit and there, right there, in the mirror, a soft white light appeared right next to her reflection. It almost looked like a figure of a person was in the light. It started to become clearer as she moved a little closer to the mirror.

Her heart was racing as she realized the man standing in the white light was her one true love, her husband Gabe. He was surrounded by angels. They were barely visible. But, Gabe, his image was clear, as clear as if he were standing with her right there in the bedroom. He smiled as he looked at her and put his hand over his heart. She put her hand over her heart and reached out to touch the mirror. His image was fading, but the white light remained just long enough for her to see an angel walking right next to him.
A loud car horn was honking as Sylvia grabbed her purse and bounded down the steps and climbed into Annie’s car. “Sylvia darling, have you been crying? I know the anniversary of Gabe’s death is such a difficult one for you. But it’s been five years now darling, please let’s celebrate this beautiful spring day.” Sylvia responded, “they are happy tears my friend, let’s go and make this day a fun one!”

Hi Katherine,
I love reading your posts and today’s post made me cry. You see, one year ago today and 10 years ago also today I lost 2 wonderful men in my life. My father died 3/27/11 and my wonderful, loving boyfriend of over 10 years I lost 1 year ago today. It was a heartfelt post which I do believe is a true story. I, too, believe in angels and I know they are with me every day.
Thank you for that post. Even though I know I’m still grieving my boyfriend’s loss, I know that it was my father’s way of telling me that they are together now in heaven playing kings in the corner.
Have a blessed week-end, my friend.
Sincerely,
Rita M. Felschow
