Thoughts on May
Hello friends, May is truly one of my favorite months. It invites spring showers to water new flowers in our garden. Our lilac bushes burst forth with purple blooms that fill every breeze with the fragrance of spring. By months end our flower garden will give us pink and fuchsia peonies to add to our dining table, and a veggie garden that sprouts bits of green ready for nurturing by my husband’s skilled hands.
We celebrate all of our wonderful mothers and mother figures this month. Mother’s Day is on Sunday the 8th. But as most of you agree, Mother’s Day is really every day. If you are blessed with a mother or mother figure you love, look into her eyes and your heart will recognize the purest form of love.
Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) is celebrated by everyone! Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and people of non-Mexican heritage all enjoy the May 5th celebration (Mexico’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Pueblo) with meals filled with the flavors of Mexico.
May 18th is the day my daughter was born. It is of course, one of my favorite days in May, and every day. Tiffany came into the world in a big way. She was born the day Mount Saint Helens erupted! We lived close enough to have ash coming down everywhere on our way to the hospital. We didn’t know exactly what had happened until much later. Our daughter is a successful business owner. A brain tumor survivor, and the mother to five of our very favorite people (smile). I love being her Mom and a grandma!
