Between the Lines Blog Series Week Six
Between the Lines Blog Series Week Six-
Welcome to another week of “Between the Lines”, the blog series where I introduce bloggers age 50 and older you should be following! Blog land is celebrating the Between the Lines Series too. Please know that I did not create the Facebook group . But I did create a Google plus group HERE if there is enough interest I’ll keep it. If not, no problem I’ll let it go.
Are you ready to meet some more fabulous bloggers of a certain age?
Meet Cathy blogger at My Side of 50, she shares things that relate to being a certain age and she does it all with the motto “be brave” her motto alone should be enough to scoot you right over there ( wink).
I asked- What is the best advice you have received about blogging? Just hit the publish button. If you wait until everything is perfect or until you know everything you need to know about blogging, you will never publish. If you make a mistake, there is nothing in a blog post that can’t be corrected. Also – there are no “blogging emergencies”, so don’t stress out if your plans & schedule don’t work out. The blog will always be there tomorrow.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Blue Bell Cookies & Cream
Meet Evelyn blogger at Miracle Mann/blog. Evelyn writes a faith based blog while sharing hope, help and insight for Thanatophoric Dysplasia and she is the author of Miracle In My Living Room. She is a stay at home mom who lives in Tampa, FL raising her special needs son.
I asked- How much do you spend on advertising your blog? I don’t spend any money on advertising. I placed one Facebook add for $5, but that is all so far.
What is your favorite vacation destination? My favorite vacation spot? Two years ago, we went to Niagara Falls and it was amazing. But, a cabin on a lake would be lovely too.
Meet Lory, blogger at Designthusiam, You will find a variety of wonderful design inspirations on Lory’s blog. Her enthusiasm and keen eye for design will draw you in immediately.
I asked- What do you know now about blogging that you wish you would have known before you started blogging? I began blogging with an open mind and no real specific goals, other than to see where it took me. I sensed that there would be opportunities that I couldn’t predict and I was actually excited to see what surprises would arise. One of the first surprises was how helpful the community of bloggers is and how eager they are to share information, support, practical knowledge and even tangible business leads, so while this was something I didn’t know, if was a wonderful thing to discover. I think had I known this in advance, I might have begun sooner and tapped into this resource to avoid some mistakes early on.
What is your favorite summer salad? I love salads that remind me of my most treasured places to travel, so I’d have to say a great Mediterranean salad is at the top of my list. One of my absolute favorite places on earth is Positano on the Amalfi Coast and during a recent trip, I found myself eating the same salad nearly every day, a green salad with the freshest local tomatoes, burrata cheese, olives, tuna, kidney beans, corn and a drizzle of olive oil. It’s best when sun-drenched and eaten al fresco and I’ve tried countless times to re-create this delightful experience at home. Add an accompaniment of sparkling Pellegrino and I’m immediately transported to the seaside paradise.
Meet Kim blogger at Kim Today, She greets new challenges with a smile. You will find her blog , welcoming and inspiring too. Note, I was having a bit of trouble with her link. Please let me know if it isn’t working.
I asked Do you allow advertising on your blog? What a timely question! I just began using Google’s Adsense less than one month ago. After 10 years of blogging, I decided it was time to see if I could make enough money to pay for the blog web hosting and any ancillary blog related expenses. I admit I still do not quite know what I am doing. I did get my privacy and disclosure posted on my blog (which is required with Google Adsense). I have much to learn about advertising, which is fine with me, I like to learn things!
When was the last time you jumped rope?
I have jumped rope in the last four years. It is hard! I was going through a phase of switching up my training. I have been almost exclusively a runner. That summer I was trying more body weight exercises, such as burpees and skipping rope. That phase didn’t last too long! Now, after meniscus surgery, and being told I have arthritis in my knees, I am planning on doing more varied work outs. One of my “Project 50” goals is to complete an obstacle course race. That will be the Warrior Dash in August. For that race, I need to work on much more than just running. Jumping rope would probably be a good activity to get back to-and I already have the jump rope!
Meet Kirby blogger at Brandy Wine Cottage, her blog will make you smile. You will enjoy learning the story of Brandy Wine Cottage. She has a sense of humor that will keep you reading on too.
I asked -How many photos on average do you use for each post?I typically use three photos per post, but it depends on the topic. If you had the super power to fly, where would you go first? If I had the superpower of flight, the first place I would go is New York State–both my mother (in Rochester) and my daughter (in Manhattan) are there and I miss them terribly!
Meet Laurie blogger at Vanity and Me Blog, Laurie was born about 35 miles from where I am from, that was a lovely surprise to learn. She shares her style and fashion tips for women 0f a certain age. She is a professional hairdresser and beauty therapist.
I asked- Do you stick to the blog rule of 300 words or more for your blogposts?
Do you plant a flower garden? Yes I do have green fingers! I have a huge garden that is under construction! It’s been a long process, but it’s just starting to take shape. Dahlias are my favourite flower.
Meet Mary blogger at The Boondocks Blog, she shares a great enthusiasm for re-purposing and making new uses for old things. You know I love that ( new uses for old things has a place here too)
I asked- How many blog hops or link parties do you join each week? What a great question and perfect for me. When I first started blogging I did not even know what a link party was. I would look at all the pretty link ups on other bloggers parties with a baffled expression. It was only about 6 months into blogging that I chanced upon a post by another blogger who explained what they are and how to use them. Imagine my enthusiasm when I saw this. A way to connect with others besides commenting and FB.
Well, I jumped on it! At one point I believe I was visiting 100-120 link parties per week. It was necessary because I was unknown. But it was also exhausting. After six months of this I became selective. I would only go to link parties that gave me something in return. There were many that did not acknowledge me at all, there were some that only acknowledged me when I was featured and so on. So I cut down my participation to half of that.
Along the way I made some fantastic internet friends. In fact we became such good friends that we have recently started our own link party called Sweet Inspiration. Now everyone has a certain way that they run their link parties and because I was on the other end of the link up not too long ago, I make a point of not treating my guests the way I do not want to be treated. My hostesses and I make sure to go and visit every single one of the bloggers that link up to us.
Yes, it is a lot of work, but now I have made even more blogging friends and I feel that I have been enriched by being exposed to such amazing creativity from the blog posts linking up. I still visit about 30-40 parties a week. Most of them are friends now and the rest are bloggers that I highly respect and admire.
As for Blog Hops, I participate in two every month with a group of friends… it’s all about community!
What is your favorite summer time treat?
That is an easy one. Because I live in Greece we have an abundance of fruits in the summer time. My favorite hands down, are grapes. I can eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, we also have a great variety of ice cream here to ward off the heat but I try to stay away from that as much as I can.
Meet Roz blogger at La Bella Vita Cucina, she and I have been bloggy friends for quite a while. I just love visiting her blog, but I swear I gain 5 pounds with every visit ( wink). She shares amazing recipes and life stories on her blog. You will want to learn about her family and their history and their homemade balsamic vinegar. In Roz’s feature collage you can see the mountain view looking out from her family’s trattoria ( smaller than a restaurant and larger than a cafe) in northern Italy.
I asked -What do you feel is the most important thing to know before you push the publish button? Make sure that your SEO rating is high (a green dot appears when using WordPress Genesis themes). No matter what platform you are using, read your SEO feedback and correct anything that you can until a good SEO rating is accomplished. This will help people who are looking for your content much better than if your SEO is average or worse, is low.
If you could have any meal cooked for you by a well know chef who would it be and what would be served? I’d love to be served an authentic Northern Italian meal by Biba Caggioni who is from the region that my family is also from in Italy. I would ask her to prepare me something with some hart-to-find ‘guanciale’ (pork), prosciutto, and pasta! Mmmm! That would be heavenly!
Meet Rena blogger at It’s all Fine. Whatever Tickles the Fancy, she has a certain laid back vibe that will draw you in as she shares her love of style.
I asked- Have you found useful blogging tips at Katherines Corner blogging tips page?” My answer is; Absolutely! I’m relatively new to blogging (August of 2015) and I started out on a hosted site but have since moved to self-hosted. There are a lot of blogging resources but I find that the help offered by women with similar blogs to be the most applicable and easiest to understand and follow. I already had figured out the basics of blogging by the time I found your blog so I was glad to see that also you cover the more advanced topics like technical stuff, monetizing, and selling ad space. However, the most useful tips I have learned from you are not from what you’ve written but are by the example you set as a blogger.
What is my favorite book?” That’s a hard question to answer because although I read a lot, I don’t often just curl up with a book. Because it was big with my kids at the time, I did read the entire Harry Potter series. I grew up reading Barbara Cartland books and my favorite genre is still romance. I’ve dabbled a bit at written romance fiction and one day I may take a shot at self-publishing a few of my stories.

Nice to meet all these beautiful, fabulous women! Loved the blogging questions asked! I’ve learned a lot by reading the answers:)
What an amazing group of women! At 46, I am a newbie blogger and find inspiration from this series. When I decided to blog, I had no idea what was involved in the process. It’s been overwhelming at times and I still have a lot to learn, however, I am amazed at how encouraging, supportive and welcoming the blogging community has been!
I’m a tad late to this party but it is a great series!
Another great week of awesome bloggers and look forward to checking these ladies out now more and also wishing you a wonderful Tuesday, as well xoxo <3
