Its Apple Season-
Its apple season! Apples are the base for a variety of yummy things this time of year. Today it’s all about trying something new. There are plenty of apples available at your local farms and markets. I like the tart granny smith for this recipe. But, you can use your favorite. I also like using pink ladies for pies. Before we begin let me just remind you of that first bite of a crisp apple, it will get your taste buds ready for this simple apple galette recipe. You can’t go wrong with a classic like apple pie. But you can play a little and maybe make this simple apple galette, and you have permission to play with your food.
Before You Start: Preheat oven to 400°, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. roll out dough on the prepared baking sheet.Or pull with your hands.
What You Need
Premade dough (you can find it in your refrigerator section at your market.) But if you have time, make it from scratch! I like Pillsbury.
6 Cups (about 2 lbs) baking apples (cored peeled or unpeeled, sliced Granny Smith, or your favorite)
2 Tbsp lemon juice
3/4 Cup white sugar
1/4 Cup brown sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
2 Tbsp Butter
Medium bowl
Large bowl
Rolling pin (optional you can just pull it into shape with your hands ( I think it’s fun to play with your food)
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Lets Make It! In a bowl mix sliced apples with lemon juice to coat well (this helps to keep them from turning brown.) In a second bowl combine all of the dry ingredients. Place apples into the dough a pattern is always nice. Sprinkle with dry ingredients and bake for 25-35 minutes ( until golden.) Note- Apple skin will change color when baked.
serves 4-6
Katies Tid Bits* If the edges start to get to dark just add strips of foil to cover them.
There you go a very easy pie with a fancy name ( wink). What do you bake for apple season?
There are still a couple of days left to enter he Breakfast to go giveaway. Don’t forget to join us for the Thursday Favorite Things link party. Early birds will start linking at 7pm (MST) tomorrow.
