Just Good To Know
I often refer to myself as a veritable font of information. That’s in no way meant to sound arrogant. The truth is I have a memory like an elephant. My brain is like a giant sea sponge soaking up every tid bit of information that comes along. So today I thought a blog post filled with “did you know “and “just good information” might be fun to share. Many of you are like me and remember everything . You may already be familiar with some of these just good to know bits of information .but I hope I share something new to you too.
Did you know that a couple of glasses of champagne are good for your heart? You’ve heard about red wine. But did you know that champagne also contains poly-phenols ( potent plant chemicals that help improve your blood flow.) Which may reduce your risk for heart attack. Cheers!
Aluminum Foil Instead Of Steel Wool
Steel wool pads cost about $3.50 for a box of 10. But a 25 ft roll of aluminum foil is usually less than $2.00 roll some up in a rough ball and use it instead.
How To Clean Your Coffee Grinder
Did you know white rice is not only tasty but can clean your coffee grinder too? Just add a teaspoon of dry white rice to your coffee grinder. Grind as if you would for coffee until the rice has turned to dust. Wipe out with a paper towel or clean dry cloth. All of the coffee bean stains are gone and the grinder looks shiny and new again( keeps blades sharp too).
Simple Way To Clean Your Microwave
Just good information-I’ve done this for years and it works really well. Cleaning the microwave is a breeze.Fill a microwavable bowl with water and a squirt of your favorite dish soap. Place in your microwave and microwave on high for 4 minutes. Let sit for 2 minutes. Carefully remove bowl ( it’s hot) wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp sponge. The hot soapy water steams the microwave clean and all you do is wipe it off. taa daa!
If you’ve enjoyed this Just Good To Knowpost I’ll do more posts similar to it in the future. Meanwhile,……..Did you know that your blog friendship makes me smile and your comments make me do a little happy dance?

Hello Katherine
I have been house hunting and looking at allmysons .com moving to Kansas City with my wife, for a job relocation.
Originally, I was looking for new breakfast recipes and stumbled upon your post about omlettes (they look DELICIOUS by the way).
I made my way through a lot of your posts and liked this one on “Just Good to Know”, these things are good to know, I actually was unaware of the microwave cleaning tip, so I will definitely try that the next time my wife decides to warm spaghetti sauce in the microwave without a lid
I tend to sway towards blogs that offer differentiating content, and follow one so that I can keep up with diverse subjects in the area. I did find your blog through Bloggy Moms, and I wish you guys had a little more posts geared towards men. But great blogs nonetheless.
Thank You!
Kyle

My husband and daughter both have an excellent memory too. I on the other hand… LOL! I do like the tip for the coffee grinder. I don't usually put soap in the water to clean my microwave. I'll have to try that next time. Usually I just use water.
kath1960 says
Soapy water releases steam with soap in it. 🙂

p.s. you are very blessed to have a good memory. I'm one of those people that if I don't write it down, it's gone.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

OH my gosh, I am jealous of your memory…and THANK YOU for all these great tips…keep them coming please.
I on the other hand…can't remember what I did with things 20 seconds afterwards.
But I am 72…and being forgeful is par for the course…I understand, according to other friends of mine, my age.
I also have Fibromyalgia and "fibrofog" comes with the conditon too.. unfortunatly as well.
But I do have a question for you…I take Tylenol as part of my meds …and I know that can cause liver damage…do you know the NAME of the test I could ask my Doctor to send me to get to make sure my live is still working properly ?
I have my liver enzymes tested from time to time, but not sure what to ask for otherwise.
I never like to act like I don't know what in the world I am talking about when I go to my doctor.
Rose

Dear Rose, I sincerely understand your concern. It’s true we’ve all heard that taking too much acetaminophen may cause liver damage. There are two potential ways this can happen.
#1 Using medications which contain acetaminophen in combination with each other. It’s important to be aware of the ingredients in all medications (non prescription and prescription) that you may be taking. Acetaminophen is a common component of many different over-the-counter and prescription medications. You should not take two or more products that contain acetaminophen at the same time. There are many other nonprescription brands and prescription medications that use acetaminophen [APAP] as an active ingredient.
#2 Not following label directions, take only the recommended dose. Most over-the-counter (OTC) medicines have a Drug Facts label to help you select the right product and use it correctly. One general safety tip: If you’re taking more than one OTC medicine, make sure to compare the labels. Taking multiple OTC medicines with the same active ingredient can be harmful.
Your liver performs a number of important functions. It stores vitamins, sugars, fats, and other nutrients derived from the food you eat. It creates chemicals your body needs to stay healthy and regulates body chemical levels. And, it breaks down and eliminates toxins (including alcohol) from your body and removes waste products from your blood.
When Doctors access your liver function they look at the blood levels of certain substances including bilirubin and liver enzymes. Higher than normal levels of these chemicals may be a sign of liver disease.
It is my understanding that elevated liver enzyme levels are common. Elevated enzyme levels do not indicate a specific disease, but may be caused by a liver disorder. Common causes of elevated liver enzyme levels include : Medications such as: Certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Cholesterol-lowering medications, Antibiotics, Anti-seizure medications, Excessive alcohol consumption, Obesity, Diabetes, Elevated triglycerides, Infection, such as viral hepatitis and mononucleosis, Autoimmune disorders of the liver and bile ducts, such as autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis and primary biliary cirrhosis,Metabolic liver disease, such as hemochromatosis and Wilson’s disease,Excessive use of vitamin supplements and certain herbal supplements, Tumors of the liver or bile duct.
A recent study reported that increases in ALT (an enzyme found in the blood which originates predominantly from liver cells) were observed in subjects taking the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen (4 grams). Elevated liver enzyme levels sometimes may be, but are not always, a sign of poor liver health.
Initially a simple blood test called a LFT (Liver Function Test) is the one used to determine your liver enzyme levels and liver function. Please speak to your health care professional regarding your concerns and if you are under a physician’s care for any serious condition, or are taking any other medications, you should always speak to a health care professional.
Thank you for your question. Wishing you good health, Katie
