Do You Remember When
I often wake with a song in my head. The term, “ear worm” is used when there is a song stuck in your head all day. An odd term for a song that will be hummed sung and repeated throughout the day. Today that song is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Specifically the lyrics “Do you remember when we used to sing Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah, Just like that, Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah,La dee dah.” 🙂
Yes I do remember when…I have been told I have a memory like an elephant. I believe that term comes from the way elephants follow the same paths and even hand down genetic memories of directions and places of their burial grounds across generations. Isn’t that incredible? I am grateful that I have a good memory and can remember things as far back as age 2. I joked with my Mother once that I remembered what she ate while she was pregnant with me. Giggle.
When I was in school I was fortunate to remember my lessons without much challenge. But I used to wish for an eidetic memory. Did you know that the talented actress, producer and author, Marilu Henner (marilu photo source) has an eidetic memory?
Can you imagine remembering every day, every moment’s details? There’s a television show here in the US that hubby and I enjoy called, “Unforgettable” . The main character is played by the lovely actress Poppy Montgomery and her character has an eidetic memory.
After watching this show I don’t think it would be such a blessing after all.

Why all of this rambling about memories today? Because, we made happy memories with our grandchildren last week, one more thank you “shout out” to the three lovelies who took care of Katherines Corner while I was away. Thank you!
We didn’t do anything extraordinary. But we did a lot of little things that make the hours, days and nights pure happy memory making.
Things like bubble baths in the jetted tub, wearing goggles of course. You can’t hunt for treasure in the tub without them.
Eating chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast
Coloring masterpieces to hang on the refrigerator for the world to see, well at least those in our little world. The children also created a wonderful welcome home poster for their Mother and Father. ( here they are at their house)
We ate many overflowing bowls of popcorn while picnicking on a blanket in the living room.
We watched a movie we’ve all seen many times, but enjoyed like it was the first time.
We celebrated our oldest granddaughter’s birthday with a yummy turtle pie ( you can get the recipe here) .
A trip to the dollar store and to the local Wendy’s restaurant elicited squeals of happy.
Our second to the oldest got a lot of extra pampering, as she was nursing a broken foot ( note- she arrived that way, it didn’t happen at Grandmas). Update she is off her crutches now and just walking in the boot.
They all waited patiently at their home for the arrival of their Mother and Father.
All happy memories! It was a pleasure to share them with you.

It sounds like every one had a wonderful time! Spending time with family is the best!! My best friend’s favorite song is Brown Eyed Girl even though she has hazel eyes. I always think of her when I hear it.

I had no idea that is what it is called when you keep a song in your head lol. I love memories and this is a weekend of making memories, I will spending it with my mom, my daughter, and my superhero grandson at Disney! I loved reading about all your memories as well.

I have a great memory. Sometimes it’s frustrating because no one remembers things with me! We just got back from a trip with one of the kids’ grandmothers. Her husband (my father-in-law) was playing in a bridge tournament and my husband had to work, so it was quiet. We did things very low key – like bubble baths and movies and quiet walks, and I thought that maybe she appreciated that. Just snuggle times and mellow times with her grandkids. It wasn’t one of those trips with big restaurant dinners or amusement parks or anything intense. From reading this post, it makes me think maybe she really loved our time together.

Woke up thinking about my wonderful father who’s now gone but left behind memories – him spouting Wordsworth and Kipling, etc. etc. Ah, what would we do without those memories?

I mean, sometimes I have trouble remembering what I ate yesterday! I swear that all these migraines are causing too many brain cells to leak out of my ears…..

What a lovely story, Katherine! As we bought my husband’s paternal grandparents’ house, we are surrounded by memories. I asked hubby about a bookshelf that was in the living room and he said, “Oh, the entertainment center?” :O) Mamaw used it to store her VHS tapes of old wrestling programs (like from the 70s and 80s). That brought up the memory of the first time I met Mamaw, who threatened (jokingly of course) to throw hubby across her yard for not bringing our boys to see her sooner.
