Adding A Bit Of Living Room Color
Adding A Bit Of Living Room Color-
I like clean lines and minimalist decor and I always add a “pop of color”. But, I thought I would add a bit more color to our living room. Do you remember when I added a touch of turquoise to our living room a while back? If you missed it you can see the post HERE. I made some topiaries for the fireplace mantel a while back too, you can see them in the before photo. I also used some white beachy accents ( from Michaels craft store) to give our living room mantel a little bit of a “cottage by the water vibe” . Most of you know I dream of a cottage by the water. You can see my cottage page HERE.
Lets jump in with my before snaps.
BEFORE-
My hubby asked me not to paint the walls ( he lives here too, giggle) and I have a limited budget. So… I went shopping in our home, I like to “decorate with what you have”.
I started with the mantel. It seems I always start there. 🙂 I took the lovely turquoise beach glass candlesticks from our family room ( a Christmas gift from a sweet friend) and I placed them in the center. I added two large seashells (previously found in our guest bathroom) to the mantel too.
The shears from the guest room quickly replaced the white curtains. I like having plenty of natural light in the living room. I didn’t want any heavy curtains blocking out precious day light. A pillow from the mater bedroom is now at home on the couch.
A scarf from my closet ( I bought it at Kohls) now resides on the ottoman. Hmmm I may need to add that to my New Uses For Old Things page, giggle.
I wanted a cozy throw too because I like to sit the living room and read. But, this time of year finding one in the shops is impossible. Have you seen the bathing suits in the shops already! I made a quick trip to JoAnns ( JoAnn fabric and craft shop) and I found some non pill fleece fabric on SALE! I love the chevron pattern.♥ I added some pom pom trim too. There is one other thing I would like to change, the pot the palm tree is in. But, it is rather fragile so I am hesitant to re-pot it.
So there you have it, our bits of living room color. Just a few tiny changes 🙂
Do you ever go shopping in your home? How are you Adding A Bit Of Living Room Color?

Thank you Sonia, I like the blues too. Hugs
Very nice. Color adds so much.
thank you Doylene
I like clean lines as well, but a pop of color like this gives the eye a bit of a break and sets the mood. This room is very inviting:)
Thank you, I always want our home to look cozy and inviting. Never to fancy to “love in” Hugs
These blue items look so wonderful!
Love from Munich, Elisa
Thank you Elisa, Hugs!
I love how a subtle splash of color can perk up a room. For the pot, why not buy/find/repurpose a larger wicker or bamboo pot and slip it over the white one? Fill in the top with beauty bark or lava rocks and it should fit the fresh theme. Sue
Thank you, I have been looking for a pot big enough to hold it, haven’t found one yet. Love the idea of using beauty bark.xo
I love how you added the beachy accents in my favorite color…blue 🙂 The beach glass candlesticks look so pretty on your mantle and the chevron throw with the pom pom fringe is my favorite…beautiful detailing! I think I need to stop by at Jo Ann fabric, thanks for sharing it.Shopping around the house to jazz up a room is my favorite way to decorate:) I like your hubby’s comment above….it’s something I hear from my hubby quite often, lol! You have done a marvelous job on your living room decor and the “pops of blue” accents!Have a great weekend! hugs, Poppy
Thank you so much Poppy. Your thoughtful comments and compliments are like hugs. Enjoy your weekend my friend. xo
Love the new accents! I’m partial to turquoise shades, too. At this point, instead of repotting right now; maybe you could just paint the pot with the accent color? Just a thought. 🙂
Hi Su! Thank you. Yes, I have been looking for a pot big enough to hold it, haven’t found one yet. I hate to paint the pot ( it was a gift). Big Hugs!
I love what you’ve done with the place! I’m about to do some re-decorating of my own livingroom, and I think teal accents are going to play a big part.

Hi Shannon, thank you for stopping by. I love the chevron pattern fabric too. They had several colors I was so thrilled when I found this wonderful turquoise blue. Hugs.
The blue was a nice touch. I’m with your husband – leave those plain white walls alone.
oh rats the walls look white…they are a very light beige, giggle.
It looks lovely. I love the blues you’ve chosen, soft and warm, very inviting. My LR decor consists mostly of toys everywhere, lol.
Angel
you make me smile xo
Hi Katherine, looks so charming and inviting and I love that look. I added touches of red to my living room, but the blue is georgeous.
I love using the blues to keep my beachy cottage dream theme alive.I bet your reds look wonderful. xo
I love the bit of color you added and looks beautiful. Makes me think of the beach with those shades of blue for some reason. Thanks for sharing and now wishing you a wonderful weekend!! 🙂
mission accomplished . Have a great weekend my friend xo
I love what you did, Katie! It looks tasteful, comfortable and inviting. Our Florida home is decorated in a similar manner with the use of turquoise, teal, coral, flamingo. I admire clean lines and an absence of clutter, I would go shopping in our house and redecorate often if Mrs. Shady would let me but “she lives here, too” and likes things to stay the same for years on end.
Thank you my friend. My hubby is like your wife. He always says it looks great already why make changes, giggle. Hugs
It looks beautiful…I love blue, so I love this 🙂 Sometimes the small details make the biggest impact. I hope you have a lovely weekend xx
Oh sweet Kizzy, you are so right. Hoping your weekend is a sweet one too. xo
Oh I love the simplicity of the decor. It’s so pretty. Yes I love shopping around my house, it’s a place with things I already like and love!
So true, I love rotating things throughout the house. 🙂
