7 Surprising Places to Hang a Chandelier

Sometimes the most interesting interior arrangements are those you would least expect. You don’t have to be an interior designer to make bold statements in your home. Choose what you love, take risks and most importantly have fun; it’s the only way to uncover something new. If you’re looking for some fresh ideas, consider these 7 unique places to hang a chandelier and add elegance and interest to your space in a delightfully surprising way.
1. In the Garden
We often think of chandeliers as formal and sophisticated, but place them in the right setting and they can be whimsical, too. Use a chandelier to create your own secret garden, one where you can escape on a sunny day or spend an afternoon catching up with friends. A backyard garden is a perfect place to set up a small, stylish dining set, and a chandelier hanging over the table adds a charming touch to get the secret garden vibe just right.
2. In the Bathroom or Over the Bathroom Tub
In the bathroom, a chandelier can help you design a serene, spa-like setting. Try hanging a graceful fixture above the tub, and be sure to choose one that fits your bathroom’s style and matches your personal taste. Install a dimmer switch so you’re able to soften the lighting, then light a couple of candles, turn on some soothing music and enjoy deep relaxation during your evening bath.
3. Nestled in a Nook
You typically see chandeliers in the center of a room, high enough so people won’t hit their heads while walking. There is no rule that says this is how you have to hang a chandelier (and even if there were, who says you have to follow it?). Instead of using a chandelier as overhead lighting, use one to provide accent lighting to the space. Break the rules and hang a chandelier low and beside a chair for a cozy reading nook.
4. Bedside
Forgo typical overhead lighting and instead hang a chandelier or pendant low and off-centered in the bedroom. Suspend a chandelier beside your bed and over your nightstand for a soft glow, taking full advantage of the dreamy ambiance it creates. While chandeliers in bedrooms are nothing new, try this twist and create a space that is as unique as you are.
5. Poolside
If you have an indoor pool or perhaps an enclosed patio or sun room, transform the room into a luxurious oasis with a brilliant chandelier. Pool rooms, at times, feel cold and bleak, so if the room allows, add a large chandelier for a total WOW factor. Helpful hint: be sure the lighting fixture you choose is rated for damp locations.
6. In Your Dream Closet
While many of us might not have the luxury of a walk in closet, for those that do, spice up your space with new lighting. Replace your dingy and dull old flush-mount fixture with a bold and beautiful chandelier. Your closet is the perfect place to try something new since it is most often times hidden away behind a closed door. Go bold, or modern, or pick something sparkly, try something totally different from the rest of your homes decor. This is the time to have some fun!
7. In the Chicken Coop
Maybe you have a garden shed, a greenhouse, or even a chicken coop in your backyard. Whatever your yard set-up, big or small, try incorporating different design elements for added interest and fun. This chicken coop enchants with its large whimsical crystal chandelier. With patio season in sight, get excited for warmer weather and try your hand at adding unique and clever lighting ideas to your backyard or patio!
While there may have been only a few acceptable places to hang a chandelier in the past, a lot’s changed. These 7 clever spots prove the rules of interior design are meant to be broken. Have fun decorating and don’t be afraid to take a risk! Thank you Katherine for allowing me to share with your readers.

I love them too. If your room brings you comfort, if your room brings you sanctuary from the long day, then put that chandelier in the corner and smile every time you see it whether it is too much or not. I certainly agree with you my friend. These are such creative and inspiring ideas. xo
Katherine, I love chandeliers so this is right up my alley. I always joke about decorating our home one Chandelier at a time…lol.
You make me smile. Don;t forget to add one to your outdoor spaces too, (wink) xo
Never fond of any chandy’s in the past, but strangely,I’ve grown to admire them more all of the time. In fact, to the point of rushing right over to look at them here. Being they aren’t just for dining rooms anymore and finding them in a bathroom, bedroom, outdoors is so creative.
Marty over at A Stoll Thru Life put a small beauty in her new closet makeover. It’s sweet! My favorite here is the outdoor dining set up. (I even like the chicken coop glam… it’s such a funky cool setting.)
Thank you for this post. Love it!!! 🙂
When I saw Marty’s closet makeover I liked the addition of the chandelier too. She is so talented. I tend to lean towards the more modern styles but I love to see them all. Not sure If I will ever have one. But these creative ideas are so fun xo
I love the idea of hanging one in a shed. Pinned.
Bless your heart for pinning my friend. I do appreciate it. xo
I don’t know about the chicken coop…but I would like to hang one over my patio table! Loved this post, Katie!
Thank you my friend, it was a pleasure to have her sharing these wonderful ideas. xo
Thanks for posting! I certainly will share this and feature it on our Facebook page. Second Story Auctions is and online auction company. There are many times when we have beautiful chandeliers but people aren’t sure how to use them for places other than the kitchen or dining room !
There is a lot of out of the box thinking in these wonderful chandelier displays. Hugs
I like the simpler ones and on a sun porch would be nice.
Oh I agree on the sun porch would be a wonderful place to hang one. Hugs
