My Friend Jas
My Friend Jas
When something nice happens to one of my sweet friends I get so excited for them, almost as if it had happened for me. I just can’t contain my enthusiasm when a friend experiences something wonderful . Do you remember when I shared that Pam ( my other co hostess) was in a Walmart advertisement? Today I am sharing something wonderful that happened for my friend Jas. Most of you are already familiar with Jas, she is one of my lovely co hostesses for the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop and Jas is a bright light, a wonderful friend and a terrific cook. She is originally from Bosnia and has been living in Northern Indiana since the summer of 1998. Like me and many of you, she loves to experiment in the kitchen and create wonderful home made dishes.
Jas was a guest on a local PBS show, Dinner and a Book hosted by Gail Martin . I enjoyed watching the show so much. Jas prepared some Bosnian dishes: Roux Soup, Spinach and Cheese Phyllo Pie,Sopska Salad and for dessert, Baked Fruit. You can get the recipes and watch the television show HERE
I asked Jas for a little behind the scenes information and below is what she shared-
(scenes from the show)
We started filming right before 9 am. I was extremely nervous as you could tell, especially at the beginning. We had to retake the introduction few times as the host kept mispronouncing my name (she also pronounced it 3 different ways during the show, lol) but that actually helped me calm my nerves. If she is making mistakes, and she’s been doing this for years, it’s ok if I make them too. They’ll just retake it. WRONG! What you see on the show is the first take throughout (except the introduction).
I thought we had a couple of hours to cook the meals and they would cut the scenes down to that 25-30 minute show. I stretched chopping the onions because I didn’t want to finish cooking too early. To my surprise, after the 10 minutes of filming and during the first break, the crew wanted everything done as soon as possible. Not only was I rushing to get it done during the second segment, but I was afraid my cheese and spinach pie will come out of the oven raw (it should bake for an hour, which I didn’t have). So, turn up the oven and hope it bakes through in 20 minutes.
The crew ate it afterwords and no one got sick (to my knowledge) 😀
I loved the experience and of course I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I ever get the chance. There are numerous things I’d do differently though but I don’t think I’d be ever 100% satisfied with myself.
I hope you enjoyed this wonderful post as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
What has happened to you lately or to someone you care about, that made you celebrate and smile, like my friend Jas?
I hope to see you all back here tomorrow night ( 7PM MST) for the blog hop. Enjoy your day and don’t forget to get your entry in for the Fan-tastic Giveaway.
