Random Acts of Kindness
Random Acts of Kindness-
A simple unselfish gesture just solidifies what I will always believe; “there are truly more good people than there are bad people in the world”. It is true we live in a turbulent time with voices shouting back and forth hurling insults and cruelties. It can often feel as though darkness falls all around us. These are the times when a gesture, big or small, can let in the light and be the joy in someone’s day.
Would you consider the simple act of holding the door open for someone, or holding the elevator for a stranger even though they are still a few steps away, random acts of kindness? What about giving a dollar to the woman in line ahead of you who doesn’t have quite enough money to pay for her milk? Or sending a gift for no apparent reason, is that a random act of kindness? What about those wonderful angels on earth who anonymously send cash to lift someone out of financial despair? You can find these miracles, these glorious affirmations of kind hearts around you everywhere. To me they are truly random acts of kindness and they are all worthy of mention.
For me, I only need to look as far as our three neighbors to be reminded of random acts of kindness. The neighbor to our left who shoveled our driveway on a snowy day. Our neighbor across the street who brings fresh baked treats when there is no special occasion at all and our neighbor to our right who takes the time to ask about your spouse’s health and sincerely offers to lift your burden.
Pro Flowers asked me to participate in their “Just Because” random acts of kindness celebration. I received a bouquet of my choosing from their just because flowers to give to someone. I must say I was a bit flummoxed, how do I pick just one? Then it struck me that I could actually pick three. I went to the store for three glass vases, I split apart the beautiful bouquet filled with star gazer lilies waiting to bloom, and I made three, “just because” gifts. I even had one left over; I added it to my lovely valentine bouquet. They opened the other day and I shared it on instagram.
The “official” random acts of kindness day, was on the 17th. I gave the “just because” gifts to our neighbors then. But, since I believe every day should be celebrated and I recognize that it is soul lifting to pay it forward. I’m sharing it with you today. Be the joy in someone’s day and share a “just because” gift with someone you feel deserves it.
I hope you will share with me the last time you were the recipient of a random act of kindness.

So nice. I know I feel great when I’m able to help someone and it’s totally unexpected on their part. Love this and hope it catches on. Have a great weekend, Katherine. 🙂
thank you my friend, for being just the way you are. Kind in all you are and all that you do Hugs
Great post Katherine! Someone left me flowers after hearing a tennis friend of mine had died from a brain tumor. It was the kindest gesture. Love ya! laura
Laura, you were truly deserving of this beautiful acknowledgement of your loss. Love ya too!
Aw, I love the concept of Random Acts of Kindness and also am a big Pro Flowers fan. As for the last time I was the recipient was about a month ago, when another blogger sent me a small token gift just because. But have been on the receiving end and the giving end, as well still in the past with other bloggers and seems to me that there is more of that going on the blogger world. Just another reason, I am proud to be a part of the blogging community. Hugs and happy weekend now, Katie!! xoxo <3
Janine, your comment is as bright and beautiful as you are xoxox
