DIY 4th of July Tablecloth

This is an easy DIY project perfect for new uses for old things too. This DIY 4th of July Tablecloth is perfect for your patio table or picnic table. It is lightweight and will tuck into a picnic basket. Use a sewing machine or needle and thread for this easy DIY.

  • What You Need
  • Bandanas -how many you’ll need is based on the length and width of your table. Our table is 36 inches wide by 60 inches long, and the bandanas are 20 ” square ( 20.25 inches for the white ones) so I needed 6 bandanas
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • Accent trim ( optional)
  • Iron
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins

Now for the, ” do as I say not what I do” moment… I forgot to iron my bandanas before I started….Iron any creases in the bandanas and lay them out according to your size needs. I just put them on the floor, or you can use a table. The sleeping supervisor is optional ( wink).

I created the red, white and blue pattern I wanted and realized the white bandanas are actually a tiny bit bigger than the red and blue. I made the adjustment when I sewed them together. You may want to double check your bandanas to avoid this.

Pin your top row of bandanas together, right sides together*. Sew two bandanas together at a time with a 1/4 inch – 1/2 inch seam allowance. Do it with all rows ( they are now panels).

Sew all of the panels keeping right sides together. Then iron the seams to lay flat.

When you are finished sewing and pressing, and if you’re feeling a little fancy ( I usually am) add some trim! Your DIY Fourth of July Tablecloth will look even more amazing! I had a little bit of pom-pom trim left from some tea towels I made for sale in my Katherines Corner shop ( the shop is closed now and I’m selling the inventory. If you missed the sale of some lovely silver and gold jewelry please CLICK HERE.

It’s time for the big “ta daa moment”…you did it, your DIY Fourth of July tablecloth looks great!

*Katie’s Tid Bits- For this DIY 4th of July Tablecloth and for all of my sewing projects. I count each straight pin I use. When I take each pin out I put it into an empty pincushion. Then when I’m done with each section I make sure the same amount of pins are in the pincushion at the end as there were in the beginning. Pins can slip out and you don’t want a loose one finding its way into anything other than your fabric. ( smile)

I look forward to seeing you all back here on Thursday for the best blog hop link party in blog land.

This is so sweet. I love this and it’s not difficult to do. Great idea and a different way to bring in the red, white and blue. TFS

[…] I turned the table a little catawampus so I could have the flowers and garden in the background. You can see I used the DIY 4th of July tablecloth I shared on Tuesday HERE. […]
