DIY Wreath Makeover

Do you remember when I made the white feather wreath? Well…the other day I was in a local craft store and I saw one very similar to mine. I knew I needed to create a DIY wreath makeover STAT. I have a different color theme for this year’s Christmas tree room so it was my first project for holiday decor. I’m sharing our Christmas home tour on Saturday.

Full disclosure, I must admit it was much better than mine. Someone told me, and I know I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again, “right this moment when you are having a great idea, someone, somewhere else is having the same ( or very similar) idea too.”

Feather Wreath DIY

It was a dark stormy day when I sat down in the art room for my DIY wreath makeover. I gathered together some Christmas sparkle and my trusty glue gun and got busy. I started by cutting away the gold beading. I’ll save it though, who knows what new project they can be used for, right? I didn’t end up using the Bowdabra but it is a great tool to have in your craft supplies.

I cut a few picks apart and cut the ribbon for the bow and covered my MDF letter C with the same ribbon I used for the bow. I just wrapped it with the ribbon and add a dot of glue every once in a while to keep it nice and neat. I forgot to take a photo of the back of the C. I covered it with a piece of white felt.

I made a simple twist bow. I have been doing it this way for years. Do you have a simple bow trick? If you’d like to try mine here are the quick and easy steps.

You need a wired ribbon for this bow and a glue gun. Decide how big you want your bow. I wanted one about 4-6 inches in diameter. My pieces are 24 inches long. Fold each end into the center ( please see the first photo), add a bit of glue to keep it in place, repeat for 2 more. Stack the pieces together, take your remaining ribbon and tie them all together. * fluff and you have a pretty bow.

I find it essential to do a “dry run” so to speak, by putting everything in place once before gluing. When it looks good I use my trusty glue gun to give this bit of fluffiness it’s permanent DIY wreath makeover.

Now for the TaDaa moment!

What do you think? Do you have a DIY Wreath Makeover on your to-do list?

My favorite Christmas memory was going to church and then coming home to open gifts.
