When White Pitchers are a Metaphor
Hello friends, I have white pitchers, I have a lot of white pitchers, I have waaaay too many white pitchers. So what’s a woman to do when her pitchers are over flowing? It’s time to let them go. My focus this year is all about letting go of “things” that I haven’t used or needed in the past two years ( or longer). Over the past 22 years I’ve also worked through letting go of negative thoughts, unhealthy memories, things out of my control, and regret.
So you might say letting go of the pitchers is a metaphor for letting go of other things as well.
For me it began with acknowledging the negative past experiences, memories, and regrets that caused me worry or that occupied headspace that they didn’t deserve. I wrote it all down, I just let it pour out onto paper. I ceremoniously shredded it afterwards. There was something in that moment, in watching it go through the shredder that boosted me and reminded me that letting go was a process.
Like the pitchers, negative past experiences come in all shapes and sizes. Working mindfully, prayerfully and allowing myself to forgive myself and others, I managed to let go. I’m not saying it’s easy, it’s not, forgiveness was difficult. I still have more to work through, but like many of you, I am a work in progress.
I have managed to let go of a lot over the years.
I thank God and my amazing hubby for helping me to let go of the nightmares, disappointment, painful experiences and negativity that were a result of someone else’s cruelty or abuse, my fears and my regrets.
So, the next time you find yourself sorting through things you no longer use, like or need. I hope you’ll add letting go of negativity to the box that goes into the trash.

That was wonderful I just recently found after my second divorce actually my third divorce from my second husband LOL that the presbyterian church made me feel more confident and excepted I feel strong and I’m completely focused on the next chapter of my life. It’s funny that the author Frederick Buechner Uses the white pictures as a metaphor; I’ve just begun my studies so it is synchronistic in the timing of this discovery. Common friend… Synchronicity
Hello Vicki, I have not heard of Frederick Buechner. That is quite surprising he used white pitchers as a metaphor as well. I believe God puts people on the same path and although we don’t always know why, I think this time it is quite clear (smile). I send hugs and prayers as you focus on your next chapter. Yes! I have let go of a lot of tangible things, but I still need to let go of some negative feelings, regrets, things out of my control, etc. And, I just got my first white pitcher a few weeks ago, on Mother’s Day! I had told my daughter I wanted to put flowers in a white pitcher, so she surprised me with one. 🙂 xo
