Tips To Find Furniture Layouts

Hello friends, I’m very pleased to have my sweet friend Laura from Everyday Edits as my guest today. I’m actually writing the post early so it will publish on time for you to read it. So… if you’re wondering why I haven’t written a post about my surgery, at this moment it hasn’t happened yet. (smile) It’s such a pleasure to have Laura sharing great tips for us to try.

Hi! This is the time of year when I start to think about switching things up. Not the tiny decor pieces like centerpieces, buckets, and wreaths. Instead, I like to rethink furniture layout ideas for couches, side tables, and desks.

Changing the layout of a room is an easy and free way to re-imagine a family or living room.

My family knows I have a habit of moving furniture around (and the contents of my kitchen cabinets) on any given evening. So it is no surprise I love to explore furniture layout ideas. And over the years I found what works for me for fresh ideas!

FURNITURE LAYOUT TIPS

But sometimes I need a few fresh looks for room layout ideas. I love Pinterest and Instagram, but those are images that go, poof, as we scroll or click.

The online version is nice to linger over the screen with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine depending on the time of day. And it’s not that I shop at these higher-end brands but their online and print furniture layouts are so pretty!

MAGAZINES + CATALOGS

If you are a regular visitor to Everyday Edits you know I love to look for decor ideas here.

I spend more time thumbing through a Pottery Barn or Arhaus catalog for inspiration. I bend corners of pages or rip pages for future reference.

For bedroom ideas, I love The Company Store catalog and Pottery Barn. If only my comforters and shams looked as fresh as the pages in a catalog. Usually, I have this guy hanging out in our bedroom.

HOME STORES

Sometimes I just need a 3-dimensional view of layout ideas. For those moments I love to pop into furniture stores to get ideas for corners and nooks. The hardest part of this idea is not to get distracted by the clearance shelves. Focus on the furniture, a side table or where is the bench positioned? There is always a bench.

Have you checked out the windows at Pottery Barn? I get more furniture layout ideas from the window displays. In a 7×5 foot space, behind glass, PB has found a way to inspire.

Interior store spaces are bright and include mini layout ideas. When I am at a store I am not distracted by one hundred pins needling me on Pinterest.

When the season turns to fall I love, love, love to walk into home stores for cozy nooks and ideas. Before my credit card goes on life support I head to Homegoods for copycat ideas.

JUST MOVE IT

It is okay to move furniture with no real plan. These are my go-to furniture sliders.

For a room that is used five days out of the year, I was curious if I could repurpose our dining room. Although the one-hour project did not give me the results I wanted- they might for many of your dining rooms.

CAMERA

Finally, my new favorite tip for new furniture and room configurations is behind my camera lens. When taking photos for future blog posts I take before during and after photos. The final photos are usually after tweaking furniture and accessories. The camera or phone gives you a glimpse into scale, position, color and so much more.

So get your camera out and take a photo of your least favorite room or area.
