Saying Good Bye to Three
Hello friends, many of you know I’ve been blogging for a very long time. Some of you have been here since the very beginning! From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your support, encouragement, and kind words over the years have meant more than you’ll ever know.
When I sat down to write Saturday’s post, I was greeted by a big red warning banner. It said my media storage is full. Not just “almost full”… completely full. It also warned that I can’t add any new photos or media unless I upgrade my storage or delete older posts.
So, I reached out to my blog host, GoDaddy, to see what my options were. It turns out I can purchase additional storage, but here’s the kicker …. buried in the fine print, it says that if I ever cancel that extra space, it would delete my entire blog. Seriously?!
That’s beyond frustrating…..
Next, I tried to get clever and add a plugin that could bulk “shrink” my images to save space , but of course, I ran into another red warning: not enough storage to install the plugin! Good grief. (smile)
So now, I’m faced with one heartbreaking option: I have to delete the first three years of my blog, along with all the photos that went with those early posts. It honestly makes me so sad…..those were the years that started it all. I appreciate your continued support while I delete so many posts. I’m saving recipes and DIY’s but everything else will be gone.
Still, I’m trying to see this as a fresh start, even if it’s bittersweet. Maybe it’s time to let go of some of the old to make room for new memories, new projects, and new creativity. Thank you all for sticking with me through every twist and turn, including the tech headaches!
xox
P.S. I forgot to mention in my reply, that I have the shared hosting with Bigscoots, not the managed hosting. The shared hosting is more budget friendly than the managed hosting there. I have the turbo one (it’s called something like that!), and it’s been very good.
Thank you my friend. My Godaddy hosting expires in April and I will definitly be looking into Bigscoots. xox
Oh Katherine, I’m so sorry about this. If you switched hosts, would you still have to delete all of that? I am with BigScoots and really like them. Also, when I switched some of my posts to Draft, I copied them and pasted them into a folder in my documents. That way, I still have them, even though they aren’t on the blog, and when I delete them from Drafts (whenever I make up my mind! haha), I’ll still have them in my computer. Not sure if any of that helps, but I’m so sorry you’re going through that! xo
I haven’t tried that, I’ll give it a go hugs!!!
That is awful. I am so sorry! Something similar happened to me when I switched platforms and I have missing posts and missing pictures and it’s just the worst feeling. I have been linking up with you since I began my blog in 2013. I am so sorry.
I’m sending you a big hug right no! Your sweet comment was just what I needed. Thank you for being a bloggy friend for so long. Sending my sincere gratitude. xo
Katherine, I’m heartbroken for you. It seems every step we bloggers turn something is trying to hinder us. Hope you find to save as much as you can. xoxo Dolly
You are so thoughtful Dolly, thank you for your lovely comment. HUGS!
That is just wrong! I’m sorry you have to lose all of those posts. Glad Blogger doesn’t have a limit. Do you have to delete that much or can you delete some here and there?
Thank you my friend, yes it is!I’m so happy you don;t have to deal with it on blogger too. I’ve been deleting the posts that had the least views from the first three years. I thought about deleting a few all over but,it just made it even more difficult to choose. This is an arduous task my friend, the amount of hours I have put into it and still have a full storage warning. Ugh, thank you as always for your long friendship and support. Hugs!
Hi katherine! Before you press delete I would look at Sutrground or flywheel or get a second opinion from tech person! laura
ps think of you every time my chimes sway
Thank you my friend. Unfortunately others that I’ve checked into won’t store the media files…I’m so happy to know you like your chimes. xo
Katherine, I’m sorry that you are having this tech headache! I know Gmail sent me a message a year or so ago that they would be deleting my photo/blog emails – anything older than 3 months. And I go through all of my emails quite regularly and do massive deletes. I’ve been wondering if I should go through and get rid of old Share Your Style posts since I don’t need them and no one looks at them. Guess that would free up a lot of space over on my WordPress. Just in case this is an issue for me in the future, like you are having today,
I only keep old family emails and ones from friends. Now, I print something I really want to reread/save in the future, like when email was still new in the 1990’s/early 2000’s and my mom wrote me something. Those emails I love to have because they are the only way I can communicate with her since she died in Dec. 2004. They are precious to me!
I hope you can save some of them! Maybe pick and choose. <3
Hope you are doing well otherwise. Keep warm, my friend!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Thank you Barb for your thoughtful comment and bloggy friendship. I’m actually paying google to keep some of my older emails saved, they are just business emails. hugs!!
P.S. you can copy and paste those emails from your Mother onto a word doc. Then you’ll never have to worry about losing them though gmail. (smile)
