A Cozy Home
A Cozy Home-
The word cozy gets used a lot this time of year. Here in Utah we have plenty of snow which allows us (forces us) to brave the cold winter weather and wind. I always hope nobody notices the little icicle hanging from my nose. If you’ve been in the cold you know all about nose-cicles, right. I love to come in from the cold and kick off my snow boots, put the kettle on for tea or fill a mug with hot soup. I slide my frozen toes into some warm slippers and wrap myself in a blanket and my cozy home starts from the inside out. We have soft blankets throughout our home. You can grab one from every room. What makes a cozy home? Colors, textures, accessories, photographs, mementos, collections, handmade touches, or is it all of these? For me it is a blend of all of these things.
I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite things is to a have vase with carnations on the dining table. They are affordable, very fragrant and come in beautiful colors.
I love a vase of fresh flowers on the night stand too. Flowers make our home a cozy home too.
Stacks of pillows, photographs of family and friends, soft color painted walls ( ours are painted buttercream) and couches that are made to be napped on, snuggled on and comfy cozy. Having my white pitcher collection on display, and a cozy robe looks even cozier as the sunlight streams in. Our home usually smells like flowers or something baking, that is cozy.
Mixing old and new pieces adds a cozy feel to our barrister bookcases. Books can create a wonderful cozy feeling. On shelves, laying about or stacked on a table they add a layer of cozy.
Adding some greenery to a room is a wonderful way to get a cozy home feeling.
If you do not have a green thumb, choose houseplants from the “hard to kill” section. Philodendrons and Pathos plants are very forgiving if you forget to water them. When you do water them they will perk right up.
While I was writing this post I had stopped by for a visit at, A Cozy Kitchen ( a blog by Adrianna Adarme). Her book, ” The Year of Cozy” was available. I thought it was truly serendipitous that I found her book just as I was writing this post. Her book has some lovely and affordable ways to make recipes, crafts and more to fill your whole year with bits of cozy. It doesn’t take a lot of money to have cozy home decor. All of the things I have mentioned and the things Adrianna mentions in her book are all probably in your home right now.
I think it is important to remember that a cozy home is not created with just the things in it. But by the feeling you get from the people and things in it. A home filled with love is instantly cozy.
What makes your home a Cozy Home?

For me a cozy home has lots of warm blankets… I’m always cold when I’m sitting and like my cold footsies wrapped in something! And yes, carnations, I have had the same Bunch for 2 weeks that just died now.
I love cozy places! My home has lots of the qualities you describe. I can never have too many books and I love the sound of this one. I just may have to have it:)
Have a wonderful Sunday and stay warm!
