I Think I Can, A Petunia Story

Hello friends, we all know the story of the little engine that could. The perseverance and determination of a little engine pulling a long train over the mountain top. It inspires all ages. Today’s post, ” “I Think I Can, a Petunia Story” ” is no wallflower of a blog post ( wink). Not only is it a petunia story it is also a …wait for it….yard sale story. But, let me begin with this beautiful brightly colored petunia plant.

We didn’t plant it! That’s right, amazing, isn’t it? The dry cracked dirt around our garden shed presented a lovely surprise a couple of weeks ago. A petunia plant, growing right there among the gravel and dirt.

A seed from last year’s garden shed window boxes ( we plant petunias in them every year) must have fallen to the ground. With weather pushing it deeper into the dirt where it lay dormant through the cold seasons.

Imagine if you will, that petunia seed pushing itself through the hardened dirt, “I think I can, I think I can”, as it springs through the dirt and gravel and starts to bloom.

It’s so amazingly lovely and inspiring. Don’t you think?

How does this post’s title, “I Think I Can, A Petunia Story”, pertain to the yard sale I had on Saturday (if you missed the tips for a yard sale post you can see it HERE)? Well….you need shoppers to have a successful yard sale, estate sale, garage sale or any other kind of sale. I didn’t have many at all. Why?

The sale was advertised well, signs were placed in all of the perfect spots and then…. the city I live in was celebrating it’s “city day” with a parade and carnival. What do you do when you have a parade? You close roads. That’s right my friends, the roads surrounding our neighborhood were closed!

But, I am grateful for the few shoppers that did find their way to the sale. There was no big “ta daa” moment. So, I am taking inspiration from that little engine that could and the, “I Think I Can, a Petunia Story”, and I’m doing it again this Saturday. Am I gluten for punishment or an eternal optimist? You decide ( wink).
